Estudou-se, neste trabalho, no período de março a dezembro de 2006, os efeitos da ação antrópica sobre os macroinvertebrados que habitam macrófitas no Rio Guareí, em São Paulo. Questionou-se se a elevada condutividade observada no Rio Guareí poderia afetar negativamente a distribuição dos macroinvertebrados, bem como, quais seriam as variáveis que mais atuam sobre os macroinvertebrados em um rio com forte influxo de nutrientes. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os efeitos das variáveis ambientais sobre a densidade e a composição dos macroinvertebrados. Três bancos de plantas foram amostrados com um puçá de 0,07 m2 de área, acoplado a uma rede de 0,25 mm. Foram medidos as temperaturas do ar e da água, a profundidade, o pH, a condutividade elétrica, o material em suspensão, o oxigênio dissolvido e a biomassada planta. Uma análise de correspondência canônica (ACC) foi realizada, utilizando-se a densidade dos macroinvertebradose as variáveis ambientais. Chironomidae, Culicidae, Acanthagrion, Coryphaeschna, Erythrodiplax, Miathyria marcella,Micrathyria, Gastropoda, Ostracoda e Hemiptera foram os únicos táxons que mostraram correlações significativas com os eixos. Com base nos resultados observados, concluiu-se que a elevada condutividade registrada no Rio Guareí, em função da grande quantidade de matéria orgânica lançada durante o seu curso, não afetou significativamente a distribuição dos macroinvertebrados durante o período estudado. No entanto, a ACC detectou que o oxigênio foi o fator ambiental mais significativo para a variância da densidade dos macroinvertebrados, especialmente larvas de Odonata.
