Este artigo objetiva debater a gestão educacional no estado do Espírito Santo a partir de 2015 com a implementação do Programa Escola Viva no âmbito da rede pública de ensino capixaba, estruturado pelo Instituto de Corresponsabilidade Educacional (ICE), entidade privada sem fins lucrativos. Firmou-se uma parceria público-privada na educação do estado do Espírito Santo patrocinada pela Organização não governamental Espírito Santo em Ação. Por meio desta parceria, ações vêm sendo implementadas com a pretensão de promover a qualidade do ensino e da aprendizagem na escola pública. Do ponto de vista metodológico, a pesquisa amparou-se na revisão de literatura e na análise de fontes primárias e secundárias atinentes ao Programa Escola Viva. Concluiu que o modelo de gestão proposto pelo Programa dialoga com o ideário do neoliberalismo e da Terceira Via. Assim, a gestão democrática, ainda que prescrita legalmente para a rede pública, vem sendo reconfigurada. Naturaliza-se, a um só tempo, a ideia de que a escola pública é ineficiente e, por isso, sua gestão deve ser pautada em princípios norteadores do mundo empresarial, como o utilitarismo, a competição e a meritocracia, sob o mantra de que esse novo modelo irá assegurar a eficácia na gestão pública. Assim, tanto a gestão democrática quanto os direitos sociais e políticos conquistados vêm sendo ameaçados ou subordinados às bases da racionalidade econômica.
