Este libro es producto del diálogo que se suscitó entre estudiantes de posgrado y destacados académicos e investigadores sobre el tema de desarrollo urbano regional, en el marco del congreso nacional que se llevó a cabo los días 24 y 25 de mayo de 2012 en Pachuca, Hidalgo. Nuevas ideas y visiones del desarrollo urbano regional contribuye a poner esta problemática en el centro del debate nacional, construyendo alternativas teóricas y prácticas que coadyuven a superar la profunda crisis regional que se vive actualmente en todo el país. Con esta publicación se amplía la visión para identificar la problemática en toda su extensión, donde la propuesta central es superar una visión que se enfoca exclusivamente a la denuncia de problemas y pasar al siguiente nivel, plantear soluciones a cada uno de ellos, involucrando las acciones de los gobiernos y los gobernados a través de la búsqueda de diversos modelos, vistos desde perspectivas sistemáticas que sean capaces de predecir y dar respuesta a los problemas que se generan en los diferentes ámbitos del territorio que habitamos. El libro se estructura en tres ejes fundamentales: en el primero encontramos diversos enfoques teórico-metodológicos del desarrollo urbano, rural y regional; en el segundo se destacan temas de población, gobierno y gobernanza regional; y el tercero aborda temas del medio ambiente, ordenación, gestión, riesgos y vulnerabilidad en el ámbito territorial.
