Escritos sobre educação, comunicação e cultura, de autoria do professor Nelson De Luca Pretto, doutor em Comunicação pela Universidade de São Paulo e pós-doutorado em Londres, Inglaterra, foi editado em 2008 pela Papirus. De cunho aparentemente despretensioso, a obra reflete, no entanto, a militância do educador Nelson Pretto, que, com o próprio exemplo, demonstra como construir uma prática que defenda a atuação do professor como intelectual da cultura.É essa perspectiva que vemos consolidada ao longo de todo o livro, que apresenta um conjunto de textos datados entre 1983 e 2006. São artigos -publicados ou não -e entrevistas em diversos órgãos de imprensa local e nacional, além de discursos e escritos de antigos panfletos. É por meio deles que vemos reiterados, não só o espírito transformador que tem animado as práticas acadêmicas, universitárias e do cidadão Nelson Pretto, mas as ideias que vêm consubstanciando ao longo de mais de duas décadas a que os textos nos remetem, a ação de um educador ocupado em transformar pela práxis, a realidade de processos vitais para a educação, a comunicação e a cultura.O alcance dessa práxis é revelada nas 240 páginas do livro, que é dividido em sete partes. E como bem aponta o educador português António Nóvoa, a quem coube a apresentação da obra: "Nelson Pretto exerce um olhar crítico e obriga-nos a pensar para além das esquadrias habituais. Este livro não deixa ninguém indiferente. Faz-nos pensar. Dá o que pensar. Não será esse o objetivo primeiro de um intelectual? E, ao mesmo tempo, convida-nos a agir. Não será essa a missão principal de um educador?" (p. 11), indaga.Nóvoa observa não ser à toa que o livro começa com um texto de Paulo Freire para quem o ato de educar é um ato de comunicação. É dessa mesma estirpe que se revela Pretto em suas itinerâncias, ao trabalhar a perspectiva de aproximar a educação da comunicação, trazendo desde seus primórdios um novo olhar que recoloca os cidadãos, em primeiro plano, e os professores como mediadores de uma cultura estruturalmente tecnolo-

RESUMO Este artigo tem como foco de análise o livro da professora e pesquisadora Iole Macedo Vanin, doutora em História pela Universidade Federal da Bahia, publicado em 2015. O objetivo é resgatar As Damas de Branco: Médicas, Odontólogas e Farmacêuticas como uma importante obra historiográfica sobre a passagem de cerca de quatrocentas estudantes pela Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, a partir da conhecida reforma do ensino de Leôncio de Carvalho, de 1879. A resenha visa apresentar a obra da pesquisadora ligada ao Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Interdisciplinares sobre Mulheres, Gênero e Feminismo (PPGNEIM) e ao Núcleo de Estudos Interdisciplinares sobre a Mulher (NEIM), acompanhar as reflexões teórico-metodológicas propostas e os caminhos que permitiram à autora desvendar os processos de blindagem e resistência produzidos por esse grupo de mulheres nos primeiros setenta anos do exercício do direito de acesso ao Ensino Superior. Registrando-se hiatos quanto à presença de mulheres negras nesse grupo da biomedicina baiana.
