Three problems in radioactive buildup and decay are presented and solved. Matrices are introduced for the solution of the second problem, and the third example deals in a simple way with flux depression.
An analog solution was obtained for the Nernst-Planck and Poisson equations which describe the ion concentration across a simple membrane held at a potential difference V. These equations constitute a nonlinear system of differential equations. It was learned that even though electroneutrality was assumed as a boundary condition, it did not hold within the membrane itself. The electric field variation within the membrane was also determined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
