This work evaluated the influence of nitrofurantoin, erythromycin and streptomycin at 50, 25 and 12,5% of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) on maximum specific growth rate (µ max ) and specific polymer accumulation rate (µ PHB ) of Alcaligenes eutrophus, considered resistant to those antimicrobials. Nitrofurantoin strongly affected µ max even at 50% MIC. Streptomycin moderately affected µ max only at 50%MIC. Nitrofurantoin showed the most harmful effect on µ PHB when 50% MIC was applied and erythromycin was not harmful.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
