The tangerine pathotype of Alternaria alternata is the aetiological agent of Alternaria brown spot on tangerines. In the state of Paraíba, Brazil, its occurrence on "Dancy" tangerine trees is associated with genetic aspects as well as the influence of environmental conditions on reproduction and dissemination within and between populations. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the diversity of isolates of this pathogen using morphophysiological and molecular markers. For the analysis of mycelial growth and sporulation, 30 isolates from different locations were examined at 24-hour intervals until the seventh day, when the spores were quantified. The 30 isolates were characterised based on molecular markers (ISSR) and genetic similarity (Jaccard index). A factor arrangement was used: 30 isolates, four media (ODA, PDA, LEA and V8), three light regimes (continuous dark, alternating light and continuous light) and three temperatures (15˚C, 25˚C and 35˚C), with 12 repetitions. Groups 1, 2 and 3 presented low genetic variability. Group 4 showed high genetic variability of the isolates obtained from the Massaranduba (state of Paraíba-Brazil) producing region and higher mycelial growth and sporulation of A. alternata. The continuous light regime and the temperature 25˚C in PDA and V8 media were the ideal conditions for the mycelial growth and sporulation, respectively, of the isolates of A. alternata.
Anthracnose (Colletotrichum truncatum) is one of the major diseases of the lima bean culture, found in production fields, causing decrease in productivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of abiotic and biotic inducers applied in lima bean plants to reduce anthracnose severity. Lima bean accessions were used and treated with: the abiotic inducers calcium silicate (Agrosilício Plus) and silicate clay (Rocksil), using the 3 g dose.L-1; the biotic inducer citric biomass extract (Ecolife), at the dose of 3 mL.L-1; and distilled water as control. To evaluate the resistance induction, the results of severity and degree of resistance of fava bean at 7, 11, 15, 19 and 23 days after inoculation were considered according to the scale of grades and classes of reactions. The design was a randomized block in a factorial arrangement 4 × 15 (treatments × hits) with four blocks. Resistance inducers Agrosilicon Plus, Ecolife and Rocksil have potential to be used in the management of anthracnose in fava bean. The studied accesses showed degree of resistance, being able to be explored in relation to obtaining anthracnose resistant cultivars in future breeding programs of this crop.

As análises pós-colheita foram realizadas, avaliando a perda de massa fresca, sólidos solúveis totais (SST), acidez titulável (AT), razão SST/AT e potencial hidrogeniônico (pH).

Fungi reduction and physiological quality of corn seeds inoculated with Trichoderma harzianum ABSTRACT: Corn (Zea mays L.) is affected by a multitude of diseases, causing great damage and losses in production. Thus, seed treatment is essential to ensure good productivity with higher yields. The objective of the research was to evaluate the effect of Trichoderma harzianum on the sanitary and physiological quality of corn seeds. Maize seeds, originating from the municipalities of Sumé (lot 1), Monteiro (lot 2) and Prata (lot 3) were subjected to ten treatments, consisting of T1 = control (no treatment), T2 = dicarboximide fungicide (24 g. kg-1 of seeds), T3 = 0.50; T4 = 1; T5 = 1.5; T6 = 2; T7 = 2.5; T8 = 3; T9 = 3.5 and T10 = 4 g of T. harzianum. kg-1 of seeds. The seed health test (Blotter test) was carried out in order to evaluate the presence of pathogens and the physiological aspects were determined by seed germination and vigor. The use of T. harzianum, regardless of the concentration applied to corn seeds, was effective in reducing Aspergillus sp.; A. niger; Penicillium sp. and Fusarium sp. T. harzianum did not negatively affect the physiological quality of seeds and provided an increase in germination percentages. Keywords: biological control; corn; seed pathology.
Bidens pilosa L. is a weed that directly interferes with the potential of crops, competing for water, light and nutrients, reducing quality and productivity. The adoption of management practices aims to position the crop in a competitive and advantageous situation in relation to weeds, which is an alternative to eliminate the use of herbicides. For this reason, several studies use straw on the surface of the soil, as well as efficiency in depth in the deposition of seeds, as these factors directly influence the physiology of weeds, and contribute to the maximum yield of the crops. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the no-tillage system using B. pilosa at different sowing depths and the influence on the physiological quality. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse belonging to the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Campus Toledo-PR. Sowing was performed manually with 50 seeds per vase with a capacity of 5 liters, containing soil, sand and organic matter in a 2:1:1 ratio. The straws were collected in commercial crops and dried in a forced circulation oven at 62 °C for 96 hours, using 3 t ha-1 for wheat, 6 t ha-1 for corn, considering the area of the pots and arranged superficially. For seven days, the germination test (G) was performed. On the 24 th day after implantation of the experiment, emergence (E), the total length of the seedlings (TLS) and the dry mass (DM) of the seedlings were performed. The design was in randomized blocks, with a 3x4 factorial, with three types of cover (without straw, corn straw and wheat straw) and four sowing depths (0, 2, 4 and 6 cm) and four replications. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and when significant. For the non-significant interaction, the qualitative data were submitted to the Tukey test (p≤0.05) and the quantitative data, the regression test (p≤0.01) was performed in the SISVAR ® Statistical Program. However, studies on no-tillage and the correlation with sowing depths show important evaluations in the physiology of weeds, for example: germination and seedling emergence, which are growth variables that reflect on the inference of the effect of the depth of sowing and compromise the expression of seed vigor and seedling length, since they are important assessments for estimating growth and development, as well as their direct effects on crops, and from these results, attempts are made to seek solutions within alternative management, in order to reduce growth and consequently try to control weeds, in order to ensure efficiency in the yield of economically important crops. The no-tillage system using corn straw at greater sowing depths influenced the lower performance in the physiology of Bidens pilosa.
