Realizado el Acto de Defensa y lectura de la Tesis el día XX de xxxxx de 2017 en la E. T. S. Ingenieros Industriales. El transporte aéreo es un elemento esencial para el desarrollo de la economía que influye en el impulso de las zonas donde se encuentran ubicados los aeropuertos. Desde finales de los años ochenta del siglo pasado, el sector ha sufrido una serie de cambios en su funcionamiento, sobre todo en zonas como Europa y Estados Unidos, como consecuencia de cambios de legislación, de propiedad y de gobernanza, entre otras causas. Dentro de este contexto los aeropuertos han pasado de ser una infraestructura que da un servicio público con el principal objeto de dar cobertura a las aerolíneas, a entidades que tienen que adaptarse a las nuevas necesidades, que requieren sus clientes y la sociedad en general, y mantenerse por sus propios medios. En esta situación los aeropuertos se encuentran inmersos en un mercado altamente competitivo en el que requieren realizar inversiones para adaptarse al mercado y competir con nuevos entrantes que tienen unos modelos de negocios que crean nuevas estructuras diferentes tradicionales (Bush y Starkie, 2014; CalificaciónStarkie, 2012).Oum y Yu (2004) identifican que para un nivel de capital invertido en infraestructuras e instalaciones existen factores que influyen en la productividad dentro del ámbito de la gestión y fuera del ámbito de la gestión que son: tamaño del aeropuerto, porcentaje del tráfico internacional, porcentaje del tráfico debido al transporte de mercancía, ingresos no aeronáuticos y operador del terminal. Sin embargo, este enfoque no contempla las nuevas estrategias de posicionamiento de los aeropuertos y su orientación al cliente que ha motivado que los gestores de los aeropuertos se hayan orientado a diversificar sus ingresos, siendo el actor principal el pasajero.En este contexto, esta tesis tiene como objetivo principal estudiar e identificar elementos claves de la estrategia del aeropuerto en un contexto liberalizado y, más concretamente, como puedan afectar a que un aeropuerto pueda tener éxito y ser 10 competitivo. A pesar de la existencia de diferentes publicaciones en la que se tratan diferentes aspectos relacionados con los aeropuertos y su estrategia, se ha encontrado que existe margen para poder aportar sobre este tema y es considerado como base del objetivo principal planteado en esta tesis.Por tanto, uno de los objetivos planteados es responder a la pregunta académica y de gestión relativa a qué elementos son claves dentro de una la estrategia de un aeropuerto y como han evolucionado. Por ello, lo primero que se ha realizado es una revisión de la estrategia en general, como se focaliza en el cliente y como se aplica a los aeropuertos. Se han identificado principalmente tres estrategias que puede seguir una empresa: Posicionamiento competitivo (Porter, 1985), Modelo basado en recursos (Hamel y Prahalad, 1990) y el modelo de Arnoldo Hax (Hax y Wilde, 2003).
