A diversidade ï¬ toï¬ sionômica e características morfoestruturais geológicas do cerrado, tais como dobramentos, escarpas e falhas diï¬ cultam a classiï¬ cação de cobertura e uso da terra a partir das imagens de satélites, principalmente em áreas de remanescentes vegetacionais deste bioma. No presente estudo, a eliminação ou minimização do efeito do sombreamento oriundo desta diversidade, bem como o reï¬ namento da classiï¬ cação de imagens de satélite demandou da Modelagem de Compensação Radiométrica por Atributos Topográï¬ cos (MCRAT). Isso foi implementado em um ambiente SIG, partindo-se originalmente de um modelo digital de elevação (MDE), do modelo radiométrico de Bird e Hulstrom (1981) e da análise de imagens Landsat-TM da região do Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros - Goiás. Foram utilizados mapas de uso da terra para comparar as classiï¬ cações com e sem compensação de radiação. Os usos mais sensíveis às mudanças promovidas pelo modelo foram: formações savânicas, fl orestais e solo exposto. A água, cuja classe apresenta comportamento espectral mais suscetível de ser confundido com sombra, obteve uma redução de área relativamente alta (20,72%). Com o auxílio de um banco de dados de mídias (áudio e fotograï¬ as) para o registro da verdade terrestre, construiu-se uma matriz de erros para avaliar a exatidão das classiï¬ cações (índice de Kappa). Foram obtidos acertos de 79% (com compensação) e 65% (sem compensação) sobre as classiï¬ cações de uso da terra. Pelos valores de Kappa, obteve-se 0,70 para mapas de uso da terra gerados com o uso da MCRAT e 0,39 sem o uso da MCRAT.
