Objetivo: Determinar la rentabilidad de diez granjas porcícolas de pequeña escala de producción y diferente sistema de producción ubicadas en el municipio de Tarimoro, Guanajuato, México.Metodología: Se aplicó un cuestionario a 10 productores de carne de cerdo de diferentes comunidades del municipio de Tarimoro Guanajuato. La información se capturó usando Excell, se crearon tres matrices en una hoja de cálculo, siguiendo la metodología de la MAP. Con éstas se calculó el presupuesto privado y se determinó la rentabilidad privada de las empresas a precios corrientes o de mercado.Resultados: Se identificaron tres sistemas de producción en la región de estudio: producción de lechón, sistema combinado y ciclo completo. Los costos de producción oscilaron entre $23.89/kg y $42.04/kg pesospor kilogramo de cerdo en pie producido, siendo el más alto en la granja de producción de lechón, y el menor en una de las granjas de ciclo completo. La rentabilidad para los tres sistemas de producciónestudiados fue: lechón (18%), combinado lechón-engorda (10%) y ciclo completo (14%).Implicaciones de estudio: Los resultados de esta investigación se basan únicamente en la capacidad usada de las instalaciones con vientres en producción y sólo son válidos para las diez granjas consideradas en este estudio, de las cuales seis operaron a su máxima capacidadinstalada.Conclusión: Los resultados indican que en Tarimoro, Guanajuato, los sistemas de producción de cría y venta de lechón, de ciclo completo, y de cría y engorda, en ese orden, resultaron actividades rentables ycompetitivas para los porcicultores.
