Entre 1902 et 1930, l’archéologue W. Vollgraff a mis au jour sur les acropoles de l’Aspis et de la Larisa, à Argos (Péloponnèse), trois grandes citernes antiques. Incomplètement publiés alors, ces ouvrages se dégradent aujourd’hui, en particulier les deux citernes de l’Aspis. Une étude architecturale a donc été conduite en 2015 en vue de documenter ces deux citernes. La communication présente les principaux résultats de cette mission. Elle a permis de mieux connaître l’architecture des trois ouvrages. L’occupation de l’Aspis est aussi mieux comprise du fait des recherches récentes portant sur les fortifications de cette acropole. Très similaires, les trois citernes ont été réalisées d’après un modèle identique, à la même époque et dans le cadre d’un programme de construction visant à renforcer les défenses des acropoles de la cité à la charnière des époques classique et hellénistique. Elles apportent à la connaissance de l’hydraulique grecque en contexte militaire.
