Abstract. Distributed real-time applications have presented the need to extend the Object Management Group's Common Object Request Broker Architecture CORBA standard to support real-time. This paper describes a Dynamic Real-Time CORBA system, which supports the expression and enforcement of end-to-end timing constraints as an extension to a commercial CORBA system. The paper also describes performance tests that demonstrate the system's ability t o enforce expressed timing constraints.
The design of new, specialized VRML nodes is discussed with its repercussions to users and developers. Two sample nodes are presented: one for data storage, the other, a shape node for visualization of vector fields. The nodes are then compared to the alternative implementations and shown to have superior performance. The possibility of future trends towards discipline-based VRML node libraries is projected in the light of providing increased performance, smaller file size and simpler programming specifications.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
