Die Untersuchung der Oktaline ist in Angriff genommen worden, um festzustellen, inwieweit die raumliche Anordnung der Substituenten an doppelt gebundenen Kohlenstoffatomen durch die grob modellmadige Darstellung nach van't Hoff -Aneinanderlagerung zweier Tetraeder mit einer Kantewiedergegeben werden kann. Wahrend fur die tetraedersymmetrische Anordnung einfach gebundener Kohlenstoffatome der erhohte Energieinhalt gespannter Ringsysteme sprichtwie weit man in der Anwendung des Tetraeders gehen darf, wird sich aus noch im Gange befindlichen Untersuchungen ergeben -, hat man kein ahnliches Brgument fur die Normallagen der an doppelt gebundenen Atomen befindlichen Substituenten. In einem Punkte ist die van't Hoffsche Darstellung sicher nicht zutreffend; die von ihr geforderte starke Annaherung der doppelt gebundenen Kohlenstoffatome findet nicht statt, wie schon der Vergleich der Abstande der Kohlenstoffatome im Diamant (1,54.10-8 cm) und im Graphit (1,45.10-s cm) zeigt. Man wird vielmehr fur das Athylen praktisch denselben Abstand wie bei einfach gebundenen Atomen in modellmadiger Darstellung verwerten mussen. Ob nun die nach van't H o f f zu erwartenden Valenzrichtungen ungefahr die richtigen sind, erscheint danach zum mindesten zweifelhaft. l) Diss. Gijttingen 1927.Annalen der Chemie 474. Band. 9
Elektronenoptische Aufnahmen von Längs- und Querschnitten durch die Ommatidien des Komplex-Auges von Drosophila lassen in den Rhabdomeren Feinstrukturen erkennen, die eine ganz bestimmte, regelmäßige Anordnung aufweisen.
Bei denjenigen Drosophila-Mutanten, die in ihren Augen nur Ommochrome besitzen oder gar keinen Farbstoff enthalten, verschwindet ein großer Teil der vorher vorhandenen Pterine in den ersten Tagen nach dem Schlüpfen. Parallel dazu nimmt der Harnsäuregehalt dieser Tiere ab. Bei den gelb- und rotäugigen Fliegen bleiben dagegen die Pterine und die Harnsäure zeitlebens erhalten.
Die Frage nach der Zahl der stereoisomeren Derivate des Dekahydro-naphtalins bietet heute an sich kein besonderes Interesse mehr, wenn man auch noch immer mit dernach den bisherigen Erfahrungen wenig wahrscheinlichen -Moglichkeit rechnen muO, daS es auf Grund verschiedener Formen der Ringel) in Sonderfiillen mehr Isomere gibt, als die Theorie des asymmetrischen Kohlenstoffatoms voraussehen laBt.2) Die Auffindung eines solchen Beispiels miidte jedenfalls dem Zufall uberlassen bleiben. Die verschiedenen stellungs-und stereoisomeren Derivate des Dekahydronaphtalins sind aber ein gunstiges Material fur Untersuchungen iiber Beziehungen zwischen Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit und raumlichem Bau, uber W a1 d e n sche Umkehrung und uber Zusammenhange zwischen physikalil) S c h r o e t e r , B. 67, 1994 (1924). 8) Auf einen Irrtum, der anscheinend gelegentlich begangen wird [z. B. E. B e r g m a n n , J. pr. (2) 128, 230 (1931)l sei in diesem Zusammenhang hingewiesen. Die Existenz xweier Dekaline hat mit den von Sac hse angegebenen xwei Formen des Cyclohextmrings nichts zu tun. Das dswie das tram-Dekalin kann man von jeder der beiden Formen herleiten. Lediglich ermaglicht die nicht ebene Anordnung der Tetraederund zwar in der einen wie der andernForm -eineAnn2lherung der trams-Valenzen eines Sechsrings in eine Stellung [nach B r e d t ,A. 437, 5 (1924) meso-2ralzs-Stellung], in der das Anschliefien einea zweiten Ringes spannungsfrei m6glich ist. Diese Moglichkeit ist bei den auseinanderstrebenden trams -Valenzen eines ebenen Sechsringes nicht vorhanden.
