Abstinent alcoholic patients displayed an increase in mu-opiate receptors in the ventral striatum, including the nucleus accumbens, which correlated with the severity of alcohol craving. These findings point to a neuronal correlate of alcohol urges.
MRI is recommended as the method of choice in the preoperative evaluation of SCC of the oral cavity and the oropharynx. 18F-deoxyglucose PET does not allow for metabolic labeling in the majority of untreated primary prostate cancers. BPH and primary prostate cancer cannot be reliably differentiated on the basis of PET. Increased 18F-deoxyglucose accumulation occurs in some primary prostate tumors and in metastatic deposits of prostate cancer.
