Mobility has become a daily practice of physicians, so it is possible that they remain periods of time without contact with the teams that support them in the treatment of patients. Longer periods between communications can cause delays in performing procedures, drug prescribing, etc. Considering this scenario, this work has as objective the conception an approach, called I 2 VSM, exploring IoT features and integrating:(i) a platform for acquisition of vital signs, (ii) an environment for contextual processing, which through customizable rules builds the Situational Awareness of the patients; and (iii) a textual and graphic display interface for these signals. As a source of vital signs, the MIMIC-III database is being used, which has been widely accepted by the international community for this purpose. In turn, for the evaluation of I 2 VSM together with health professionals, we explored the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), obtaining promising results.
According to the National Water Agency (ANA), approximately 46.2% of all clean water used in Brazil is destined for irrigation, which has been motivating the evaluation of alternatives for water supply agricultural crops. Considering this scenario, this article presents the IoT SF-Automation proposal, which aims to explore Situation Awareness in the decisionmaking process, with the perspective of minimizing socioenvironmental impacts. For evaluation of IoT SF-Automation a prototype was developed that integrates open-source IoT technologies to the EXEHDA middleware and explores a weather prediction service. The results achieved were promising, reaching a success rate of approximately 94% regarding the irrigation decision.
Considering the dynamic nature of the modern computational infrastructures provided by IoT, applications need to be aware of the contextual data that interest them, to be able to operate with as little human intervention as possible. Thus, context awareness becomes a key concept to provide adaptive services in IoT environments. Context reasoning is one of the more critical steps to obtain context awareness. However, a context reasoning strategy that can be applied satisfactorily in different application domains has not yet been found. Because of this, hybrid strategies for context reasoning are gaining prominence. In the literature, some researchers explore hybrid proposals, but these proposals do not offer flexibility on the use of the reasoning strategies. In this research, we conceive hybrid reasoning based on compositional rules, enabling a dynamic composition of different strategies. Thus, the context-aware applications can choose among different reasoning strategies, those that are most appropriate depending on the contexts that will be treated. To validate our architecture, we design and test it on a scenario based on healthcare. The obtained results showed that our architecture allows the utilization of hybrid strategies for context reasoning, improving situations identification, and decision-making.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
