The effect of drug-dependence on pregnant women and their newborn infants is described and the management of these patients is discussed.WITH the widespread indiscriminate use of stimulant, sedative and hallucinogenic drugs, the number of young women who are becoming physically or psychologically dependent upon drugs in Great Britain is increasing rapidly each year. It is therefore likely that the obstetrician will sometimes be confronted with the problem of the management of such a woman, whose life has become further complicated by pregnancy.
