Introducción. La displasia ectodérmica es un trastorno congénito caracterizado por el desarrollo anormal de dos o más derivados de ectodermo, como el cabello, glándulas sudoríparas, uñas y dientes. Los tipos más comunes son la Hipohidrótica/ Anhidrótica y la Hidrótica. El objetivo del reporte de caso es mostrar las características de un paciente con displasia ectodérmica anhidrótica, el tratamiento odontológico ealizado y los resultados logrados. Reporte de caso. Paciente masculino de 5 años con Displasia Ectodérmica Anhidrótica acude en compañía de su madre la clínica de especialidad de Odontopediatría de la ENES UNAM León, quien reporta como motivo de consulta: “que le coloquen dientes“. En la exploración extraoral se observa cabello escaso y fino, ausencia de cejas y pestañas, proquelia, tercio inferior disminuido, en la evaluación intraoral se observa oligodoncia con presencia de dientes cónicos en 52 y 62, en la ortopantomografía se observa en proceso de erupción los dientes 11 y 21. Diagnóstico bucal. Oligodoncia, dientes cónicos, retardo de la erupción, reborde alveolar atrófico-estrecho y disminución de la dimensión vertical. Tratamiento. Rehabilitación de coronas de disilicato de litio en los dientes 52 y 62, prótesis parcial removible con tornillo de expansión en el maxilar superior y, en la mandíbula, prótesis total con tornillo de expansión. Resultados. Se generó una mejor función masticatoria, fonación, peristaltismo lingual y mayor autoestima del paciente. Conclusiones. La rehabilitación temprana en pacientes con Displasia Ectodérmica y su tratamiento integral, promueve el crecimiento de las estructuras bucales, función, estética y autoestima del paciente.
Objetivos: La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo establecer la correlación entre la presencia de maloclusiones a nivel vertical con el índice del paladar y con la altura palatina. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio de tipo transversal. La población de estudio fue conformada por 134 modelos de yeso con dentición mixta, 81 mujeres y 53 hombres, seleccionados por conveniencia y obtenidos desde el 2014 hasta el 2018 del área de clínica de odontopediatría y ortodoncia en la Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores Unidad León. La muestra de estudio fue dividida en 3 categorías según la oclusión; mordida abierta (37), mordida profunda (32) y normoclusión (65). Se realizaron mediciones del ancho intermolar y altura del paladar con el uso de un calibrador digital, posteriormente se obtuvo el índice del paladar y se correlacionó con los parámetros expuestos por Korkhaus mediante la prueba estadística de Spearman. Resultados: La prueba estadística de Spearman refleja que no hay correlación entre la magnitud de los valores del índice del paladar propuestos por Korkhaus con la presencia de maloclusiones a nivel vertical. De igual manera las pruebas estadísticas indican que no existe correlación notable entre la altura del paladar y la oclusión en relación vertical. Conclusiones: El resultado obtenido al usar el índice del paladar no fue capaz de corresponder a los parámetros propuestos por Korkhaus como normales, posiblemente al ser usado durante la etapa de la dentición mixta pues durante este periodo suceden cambios constantes relacionados al crecimiento.
Antecedentes: Los materiales utilizados para la elaboración de prótesis total presentan instrucciones de uso, las cuales generalmente por descuido o ahorro de tiempo no se siguen, creando así alteración en la técnica de manipulación sin saber en realidad cuál es el efecto de dicha alteración en la concentración de monómero residual. Objetivo: El principal objetivo, es demostrar la importante relación que existe entre el tiempo y la temperatura de polimerización (ciclo de polimerización), con la concentración de monómero residual existente en las resinas acrílicas termopolimerizables utilizadas para la fabricación de bases de dentadura. Métodos: Para la cuantificación y análisis del monómero residual como primer paso, se elaboraron 3 discos de cada resina comercial, siguiendo las indicaciones de polimerización de sus respectivos fabricantes (9 discos) para ser analizados por medio de cromatografía de gases (CG) para el análisis y cuantificación de la concentración de monómero residual. Además, se procesaron 3 discos de cada resina aplicando 3 diferentes ciclos de polimerización: técnica convencional M1, periodo corto de cocido terminal M2 y periodo largo de cocido terminal M3 (27 discos). Para posteriormente hacer un comparativo de los resultados obtenidos. Resultados: En el análisis y caracterización de las resinas acrílicas al ser procesadas con la metodología del fabricante, se puede observar que: la resina Acriethil® obtuvo 0.3780% de MMR, mientras que en la resina Nictone® se tiene el menor porcentaje, alcanzando un valor de 0.0482% de MMR y la resina High Impact-45 Denture Acrylic® presenta el mayor porcentaje de monómero residual, obteniéndose un valor de 0.5770%. Asimismo, al analizar los resultados obtenidos de los tres diferentes ciclos de polimerización aplicados se observó que existe un cambio significativo en la concentración de monómero residual en dos de las resinas analizadas. Conclusiones: Las tres resinas acrílicas para base de dentadura analizadas en el presente estudio, cumplen satisfactoriamente la resiconcentración de monómero residual determinado por la Norma ISO 1567:1999 (2.2% en fracción masa); al ser manipuladas bajo las condiciones de procesamiento, establecidas por su respectivo fabricante. Pero si se manipula el ciclo de polimerización se obtiene como consecuencia la alteración de la concentración de monómero residual.
