El presente artículo invita a dimensionar el rol que los docentes universitarios desarrollan en la formación de los futuros profesionales. Para ello se proponen dos temas que se consideran prioritarios en esta discusión: a) la redefinición de los docentes como “formadores universitarios”, concibiéndolos como expertos de un campo disciplinar, que contribuyen en la formación de otras personas, y b) la modalidad en que se inician como educadores y aprenden a enseñar su experticia disciplinar. Finalmente, se discuten las implicancias de este tema tanto para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje así como en la toma de decisiones de políticas para la formación profesional en la educación superior universitaria.
Hemos asistido a variados ciclos de reforma y contrarreforma educativa. Cada nuevo gobierno realiza ingentes esfuerzos para promover y convencer a la ciudadanía de que sus respectivos programas y propuestas le cambiarán el rostro a la educación. Pero tras aparentes diferencias, muchas veces más bien de orden comunicacional que de fondo, lo cierto es que en los últimos 20 años el cambio educativo ha transcurrido inevitablemente por un permanente déjà vu político.A nuestro juicio, esto es el resultado de la hegemonía de una determinada racionalidad y del despliegue de un conjunto de principios científico-técnicos bajo lo cuáles, estratégicamente, se ha fundado el modelo educativo actual. Un modelo que se asume neutral y que se atavía de un incontestable velo de naturalización. En esta línea, Foucault (2009) señalaba que en sociedades como la nuestra la verdad acerca de los diferentes objetos y sujetos encuentra en estos principios un gran eje de re-producción. Por su parte Fardella (2012) advierte que el discurso científico-técnico, al generar una distancia entre el narrador y lo dicho, adopta una posición de falsa objetividad, desprovista ideológicamente. De esa forma el enunciado pareciera ser una descripción científica de un hecho externo.No resulta extraño entonces que, desde las políticas de masificación a las actuales iniciativas de mejoramiento y evaluación de la eficiencia del desempeño, las señales de cambio en educación hayan sido débiles y en oportunidades no menos contradictorias. Sustentadas en dicha racionalidad y principios, las medidas elaboradas han venido insistiendo en la implementación de dispositivos de acreditación, estandarización, evaluación, premios y castigos que apuntan más bien a la simplificación de complejas realidades y al control de las acciones, configurando un escenario que, de forma contradictoria, no cumple en forma alguna con las expectativas que el propio sistema social tiene de su sistema de educación.Al interior de este escenario, profesores y profesoras han gravitado bajo modelos e imágenes exclusivas y excluyentes (Galaz, 2014), porque en tanto son conminados a asumir la responsabilidad de los resultados de la educación, demandados a implementar un curriculum escolar complejo y obligados a someterse a desgastantes procesos evaluativos; * Este número especial se realiza en el contexto del proyecto FONDECYT Nº1110177.
El self-study es una disciplina de investigación, que estudia, de modo sistemático, cómo los formadores de profesores analizan sus propias prácticas, con la intención última de tener una consciencia rigurosa de lo que hacen, para poder así mejorar en su profesión además de producir conocimiento propio de la disciplina de la enseñanza. Los procesos de investigación self-study los realizan los formadores de formadores, quienes se plantean interrogantes sobre sus prácticas de enseñanza, surgidos de la cotidianeidad del aula. Los problemas que emergen de estas prácticas es lo que motiva al formador de formadores a investigarlos, contrastarlos con otros formadores que viven procesos similares, permitiendo a través del desarrollo de un proceso reflexivo mirar críticamente los modos usuales de asumir el trabajo formativo de los formadores, desafiando a modos de actuación diferente.
