Objective:To describe the profile of morbidities and expenses related to hospitalization of the elderly compared to the adult population (20 to 59 years).Methods:A descriptive, cross-sectional investigation of hospitalizations of the elderly (60 years or older) in Brazil during the period from 2002 to 2011, with data from DATASUS and based on ICD-10.Results:Although the highest number of hospitalizations were in the adult age range, the expenses were greater with the elderly, and in this case especially with mental and behavioral disorders, musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases, followed by circulatory diseases and external causes.Conclusion:The results suggest the adoption of more comprehensive policies and increased investment in health promotion, disease prevention, and appropriate and suitable treatment for the most prevalent diseases in the elderly, particularly in primary care.
This study aimed to evaluate social and economic predictors, as well social behavior and its influence on the quality of life of elders who use the primary health care network of Uberaba, Minas Gerais. Methods: Descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional and quantitative study, conducted with 248 60 year old or older subjects, from November 2016 to May 2017. A structured questionnaire was applied to evaluate sociodemographic data, health conditions and life habits as well the WHOQOL-Bref and the WHOQOL-Old. The analysis were conducted through relative frequencies and t-test as well multiple linear regression were used to associate variables. The study was approved by the Committee of Ethics in Researches with Human Beings of the Federal University of the Triângulo Mineiro (CEP/UFTM). Results: Most elders were women, catholic, with 4 years or more of formal education, had partners, a sexually inactive life, and were retired. The linear regression analysis, found a positive and light or moderate association between sexual life and the physical, social, and environmental domains, and the past, present and future activities facet. The educational level variable had a positive and light association with the psychological domain, whereas the variable occupation had a negative and light association with the death and dying facet. Conclusions: The results found show an important social impact regarding the studied population, making it clear that public policies should be created and executed as to offer subsidies for actions which are specifically targeted at the QoL of elders.
Objective: Describe the sexual practices of beginner students of a Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Method: Exploratory and cross-sectional study which included 786 academics enrolled in courses of the health area. Results: 623 (79,3%) were female and the average age was 19.2 ± 3.1 years. 693 (88.2%) adolescents had started sexual life, of which 332 (47,9%) has sexual relations with regular partner and 135 (19.5%) reported regular use of condom. Conclusion: It shows the need of health education actions targeted to the teen population in the University context, especially those of health area, with a view to prevention and to the adoption of healthy habits, highlighting not only biological aspects, but also psychosocial and behavioral

Metodología: Estudio exploratorio y transversal. Muestra de 189 estudiantes. Cuestionario semiestructurado autoaplicable. Resultados: Predominaron los varones (52,9%), con una edad media de 14,3 ± 1,1 años y una renta familiar entre 1 y 3 salarios mínimos (88,9%). El consumo de alcohol fue significativamente superior en aquellos aprobados en la escuela (84,2%; p < 0,0001) y con una renta superior tres salarios mínimos (100%; p < 0,0001). El consumo de tabaco fue más frecuente en el séptimo curso (79,5%; p = 0,0004) y en aquellos con una renta inferior a un salario mínimo (67,5%; p < 0,0001). En cuanto al consumo de drogas ilícitas, se asoció a los jóvenes con una renta superior a tres salarios mínimos (66,7%; p=0,0176). This is an integrative review which aims to assess the scientific literature related to health education for elderly in Brazil, between 2007 to 2013. How to search databases used the Virtual Health Library -VHL, Scielo, Redalyc and from the intersection of descriptors: aged and health education. Rose 14 articles that responded to the goals and, that after reading it he elucidated three categories, namely: Experiences in health education with elderly people, Experiences of training and capacity-building Needs related to health education and physical activity as a tool for health education for the elderly. It turns out that one of the main gaps are the extension of studies and experiences with didactic approaches further, the appreciation of aspects beyond diseases, as well as the importance of physical activity, but also issues such as leisure, income generation, family relationships, in addition to better training of health professionals to deal with health education activities for the elderly.Keywords: Elderly. Entre os207 idosos, 53,6% eram mulheres, com idade média de 70±7,5 anos. 56% vivem com companheiro e 78,7% são aposentados. A Hipertensão Arterial,a cardiopatia e doenças reumáticas foram as mais relatadas e com relação à qualidade de vida, o domínio meio ambiente era o mais prejudicado. Introduction: This study evaluated knowledge about HIV/AIDS in elders using the services of Family Health Strategy. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study involving 238 participants. Mini-Mental State Examination and QHIV3I were applied. Results: About 30% of participants had active sexual lives and 5.5% used condoms consistently. The question with the highest score of right answers was about transmission through needles (95%) and the lowest (52.5%) was about whether individuals infected with the virus always displayed symptoms. Conclusions: It is necessary to train health professionals to develop actions that encourage elders to take preventive measures.
