Devido ao tratamento intensivo, pacientes com COVID-19 admitidos na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) apresentam alto risco de desenvolver fraqueza muscular adquirida na UTI (FMA-UTI) que pode cursar com aumento da morbidade e mortalidade. Dessa forma, a mobilização precoce deve ser instituída e a estimulação elétrica neuromuscular (EENM) pode ser utilizada como uma estratégia terapêutica adjuvante. Assim, este documento tem por objetivo trazer informações sobre a indicação e o uso da EENM em pacientes críticos com COVID-19. Recomenda-se que, sempre que houver viabilidade clínica, recursos humanos e técnicos disponíveis, o protocolo de EENM seja aplicado ao paciente crítico com COVID-19, de acordo com a avalição do fisioterapeuta. Além disso, os fisioterapeutas devem utilizar todos os EPIs para sua segurança, dos pacientes e da equipe. A instituição precoce desses protocolos contribuirá para redução dos efeitos deletérios da doença crítica, especialmente sobre as funções neuro-músculo-esquelética e cardiopulmonar, e sobre a funcionalidade.
