Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), numerous restrictive measures have been adopted by governments of different countries. The return to elective dental care in Brazil is a reality even during the COVID-19 pandemic. During restorative dental procedures, the dental professional requires close contact with the patient, being exposed to contaminated saliva and fluids. In addition, transmission of COVID-19 by the generation of aerosol produced by dental handipieces may be possible. Thus, the dental staff must know how to act during restorative dental procedures, putting into practice the correct clinical protocols to avoid cross-contamination and COVID-19 spread. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the biosafety practices especially in the context of restorative dental procedures in times of COVID-19.
With the consolidation of Adhesive Dentistry and the emergence of new aesthetic restorative materials, Endocrown has been studied as a rehabilitative option for endodontically treated teeth. This is an Integrative Literature Review, based on the PICO strategy, with articles selected from the databases of PubMed and BVS, with a period of time from 2011-2021. The database search strategy included the following keywords: (“Endocrown” OR “Endocrowns” OR “Endocrown Restoration” OR “no-post buildup” OR “adhesive endodontic crowns”). Inclusion criteria for this review were laboratory studies and observational clinical studies. Exclusion criteria were clinical case studies, literature review, systematic review and meta-analysis. Furthermore, articles that addressed only intraradicular retainers or other restorative strategies were also excluded. The selection of articles was based on abstracts. 5 articles were selected for analysis, obtaining data on the endocrown in relation to the stress on the tooth structure, aging, marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, endocrown versus conventional crown and integrity of the tooth structure. The findings in the literature are not yet established regarding the integrity of the dental structure, as the supporting evidence is limited. Only 1 in vitro article showed that dental failures in endocrowns are more favorable to repair and another 2 in silico studies show lower stress distribution on enamel, dentin and cement in the same restoration. Moreover, the restorative material seems to influence the possibility of fracture for both conventional crowns and endocrown restorations.
Objective: It consists of reporting a clinical case of taking a facial arch and assembling a semi-adjustable articulator (ASA) for occlusal diagnosis. Case report: A 22-year-old female patient sought dental care because she was sensitive to element 24. It was clinically observed that the patient had a non-carious cervical lesion. The patient showed a physiological occlusion and an unfavorable positioning of elements 22 and 23. Thus, an attempt was made to investigate the presence of abrasive and erosive habits, which were not reported by the patient. Thus, a clinical evaluation and model assembly in ASA was conducted to identify possible occlusal interference, which would be triggering such injury. The following figures report the clinical case, occlusal registration, taking the facial arch itself, removing the facial arch, angulation adjustments in the ASA, mounting the upper and lower model in the position of maximum usual intercuspation. Conclusion: The use of the semi-adjustable articulator and the facial arch contributed to the diagnosis, planning and treatment of the case. Therefore, these instruments must be part of the dental surgeon’s clinical practice in order to offer greater predictability during oral rehabilitation.
INTRODUCTION: The temporary fixed denture is an important part of the treatment, being an intermediate phase necessary for the manufacture of the definitive denture. OBJECTIVE: Present materials and their properties; as well as the techniques for making provisionals in Fixed Prosthesis, through an integrative literature review. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Search for the articles took place in the BVS and PubMed, published in portuguese and english, between 2000 and 2020. The search strategy used was: (Denture, Partial, Temporary) AND (Polymers) AND (Denture, Partial, Fixed) AND ("Dental Prosthesis" OR "Flexural Strength" OR "Dental Polishing"). The inclusion criteria were complete studies and available; studies of temporary fixed denture on teeth. The exclusion criteria were studies of provisional prostheses on implants. The complete data of the selected texts were extracted by the reviewers. Techniques for temporary fixed denture were presented regarding the stages of preparation, literature reviews and case reports. RESULTS: The studies addressed the application of different materials and techniques, in addition to laboratory research being prevalent. There was a heterogeneity between study objects and variables, with emphasis on the use of different polymers, techniques and adding reinforcement. CONCLUSION: The revised literature presented several of temporary materials. The techniques reported were the use of silicone mold, acetate matrix and CAD / CAM. And the most common techniques to be performed in the daily clinic were adaptation of the stock facet (on the preparation tooth and endodontically treated tooth), adapted resin or ball and silicone mold or matrix.
