Traditional information retrieval systems, in the guise of presenting the most relevant information to the searcher, really put blinders on him. They present certain inforrnationtothe searcher, but strongly inhibit him from seeing other information, orevenknowing of its existence. In this paper represent an argument for a new retrieval paradigm, orse that focuses on theorganized display ofall documents, rather than ontbe linear display of just the "best."
This article presents a visualization tool for information retrieval. Some retrieval evaluation models are interpreted in the two‐dimensional space comprising direction and distance. The two different similarity measures—angle and distance—are displayed in the visual space. A new retrieval means based on the visual retrieval tool, the controlling bar, is developed for a search.
