The gouging abrasion resistance, hardness and microstructural properties of austenitic manganese steel were investigated as influenced by the varying amount of titanium addition. The gouging abrasion of the steel sample with 0.1 % titanium had the least amount of material loss and showed the highest work hardening effect. The alloying process to 0.2 % was detrimental to its mechanical properties. There was an increase in the hardness from 0 to 0.1 % titanium addition and a decrease at 0.2 % titanium content. Metallurgical surface examination of the unmodified austenitic manganese steel revealed the formation of manganese sulfide micronodules and grain boundary carbide. The titanium modified austenitic manganese steel showed titanium-containing precipitates, which increases the strength and toughness of the steel material as well as the resistance of the material to slip and plastic deformation through the precipitation hardening and grain size refinement mechanisms.
Productivity plays a vital role for business because it controls the real income that is needed to meet obligations to customers, employees, shareholders, and government through taxes and still remain competitive in the marketplace. An effective way to increase productivity is to eliminate waste in the manufacturing process, therefore using lean methodology. This study aims to use one of the lean tools which are value stream mapping (VMS) to identify wastes and improve the efficiency of the sachet filling process in manufacturing company. In conjunction with state mapping, re-engineering of the manufacturing setup was also developed. The future state map shows that after the streamlining process non value added time was reduce by 43.13%. Total lead time was also reduced from 118.63 hrs to 64.96 hrs and total man-hours were reduced from 189.26 hrs to 105.93 hrs which provide significant savings to the organization with respect to labor cost.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
