El sobrepeso y la obesidad son uno de los principales problemas de salud pública en todo el mundo debido a su magnitud y trascendencia. Con el objetivo de determinar la prevalencia de sobrepeso/obesidad y su relación con las horas de sueño, se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal que incluyó médicos/as y enfermeros/as residentes del departamento de clínica de la Fundación Favaloro. Se registraron: edad, sexo, peso, talla, índice de masa corporal, se aplicó el cuestionario de Pittsburgh para valorar las horas de sueño. Los principales resultados muestran que un porcentaje alto de participantes tuvieron sobrepeso/obesidad (76.2% hombres, 65.5% mujeres) y con mayor prevalencia en la edad de 35 a 44 años (100%), en comparación con los otros grupos etarios 45-54 (83.3%) y 25-34 (61.1%). El 82.0% de los participantes resultó con deuda de sueño. La proporción de sobrepeso/obesidad resultó ser mayor entre los que poseen deuda de sueño (75.6%) con respecto a los que no tienen deuda de sueño (44.4%), sin embargo; dicha diferencia no resultó estadísticamente significativa (p=0.106). Concluyendo, un patrón de sueño corto junto con la presencia de exceso de peso constituye un factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de diversas enfermedades crónicas y afecta no solo a la población en general sino también al personal de salud
La glucosa es el principal sustrato utilizado por el cerebro y, como tal, existen múltiples mecanismos reguladores para mantener concentraciones de glucosa; cuando estos mecanismos fallan o son defectuosos, sobreviene hipoglucemia. La hipoglucemia, es poco común y generalmente ocurre en el contexto del tratamiento de la diabetes usando agentes reductores de glucosa como sulfonilureas o insulina.
El plasma es una terapia terapéutica potencial usada para el tratamiento y la prevención del COVID-19, mientras que el Tocilizumab es utilizado en los pacientes graves producidos por la liberación de citoquinas persuadido por las células T-CAR. Estos tratamientos se encuentran en investigación y ninguno de los dos nos da algo seguro y efectivo, pero lograron reducir la tasa de mortalidad en un gran porcentaje.
Introducción: Las unidades educativas constituyen un entorno ideal para el diagnóstico de enfermedades y la promoción de salud. Objetivos: Identificar la presencia de enfermedades infecciosas y anemia en los estudiantes de la Unidad Educativa Ezequiel Cárdenas Espinoza de la parroquia Guapán del cantón Azogues en Ecuador y tomar medidas correctivas al respectoMétodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal y prospectivo. El universo estuvo conformado por los 316 estudiantes matriculados en la Unidad Educativa Ezequiel Cárdenas Espinoza de la parroquia Guapán del cantón Azogues en Ecuador durante el periodo académico 2013-2014. La muestra fue coincidente pues se trabajó con todos los estudiantes de la institución en edades comprendidas entre 11 y 17 años de edad. Participaron 146 niños y 170 niñas. Las variables evaluadas fueron edad, sexo y enfermedades más frecuentes para lo cual se utilizó como técnicas el coproparasitario, examen de sangre (hemoglobina), y examen elemental y microscópico de orina.Resultados: El 21.6% de los estudiantes evaluados presentaron parasitosis intestinal. La parasitosis más frecuente fue causada por Ameba histolytica con un 60% y 25% de Ascaris lumbricoides. El sexo predominantemente afectado fue el masculino con el 71%. Solo una estudiante del 8vo curso, correspondiente al 1.3% y un 5% de los estudiantes de 9no curso presentaron anemia. En todos los cursos se diagnosticaron estudiantes con infección de vías urinarias, representando el 15.2 %. El 77.1% de los afectados fue del sexo femenino.Conclusiones: Se realizaron intervenciones educativas a estudiantes, padres de familia y profesores de la institución.
