A program for optimization of a rolled section highway bridge girder is presented with either minimization of weight or cost, Either composite or non-composite design theory can be used. Two published design examples were solved by the computer and the results ore reported and compared to the published results.The research was financed from JHRP funds and is submitted with a request that comments on the report are encouraged, A report of application of the results by the ISHC would certainly be welcome.
