O artigo tem como objetivo analisar a visão de propriedade rural elaborada por André Rebouças, em seu projeto de construção de uma Democracia Rural no Brasil e na África. Nesse sentido, o texto está dividido em dois momentos em que o abolicionista propõe a transformação dos latifúndios em pequenas propriedades rurais. Na primeira parte, a proposta é estruturada a partir da leitura de seu livro Agricultura Nacional (1883) como referência, ao longo dos anos 1880, para sua luta em favor da extinção do monopólio territorial. Na segunda parte, o artigo investiga a apropriação das utopias cristãs de Tolstoi, a partir de 1888, pela militância intelectual de Rebouças em defesa da distribuição de terras e contra a miséria e a desigualdade social.
Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as reflexões propostas no livro África Insubmissa de Achille Mbembe (2013) sobre a releitura das tradições sagradas africanas, observadas em movimentos de efervescência religiosa, no contexto pós-independência de países do continente. Pretende-se demonstrar que as interpretações do autor sobre a vingança do paganismo oferecem uma visão inovadora da religião como resistência ao colonialismo e às suas sobrevivências contemporâneas nas relações entre as sociedades pós-coloniais e os novos estados autoritários, aliados ao Cristianismo.
RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo problematizar a escrita de si de André Rebouças durante seu período de exílio na Europa e na África, entre 1889 e 1898. Por meio da análise de sua correspondência ativa no período, pretende-se interpretar sua autocompreensão como um “Tolstoi Africano”, vista como expressão de uma dupla consciência enquanto intelectual ocidental e negro no final do século XIX, como proposto por Paul Gilroy (2001: 33-39) no primeiro ensaio do livro The Black Atlantic (1993). O artigo propõe-se a compreender em que aspectos a mobilização do pensamento de Tolstoi a partir do final dos anos 1880 se relaciona com a redefinição de seu pensamento racial e lhe permite transitar, em base universalista e cristã, para um pensamento crítico da modernidade liberal.
