A Rh III -catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling reaction of quinoline N-oxides with alkenes has been developed that provides C-8 olefinated quinoline derivatives by employing a remote C-H activation strategy. Main features of this catalytic method include the use of N-oxide as a traceless directing group, the high selectivity of the reaction for the C-8 po-[a] Natural Product General Methods: Unless otherwise stated, all reactions were carried out under air in screw-cap reaction vials. All solvents were purchased from commercial sources. They were contained in sureseal bottles and used as such. All chemicals were purchased from different commercial sources. Column chromatography was performed by using a gradient elution (n-hexane and ethyl acetate) based on R f values, which were determined by TLC analysis [Merck aluminium sheets (silica gel 60 F 254 )]. All isolated compounds were Eur.
This qualitative study examined the acceptability of female condoms in urban India, with a focus on sexual pleasure. We conducted focus group discussions with 50 women and 19 men, as well as a small number of individual interviews with women (n = 3), in Chennai and New Delhi. Perceived benefits of female condoms included protection against unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, increased sense of empowerment for women, and simple clean up. The most common drawback was reduced sensation. Participants suggested structural changes to the female condom to ease insertion and use. Consent and privacy were discussed as increasing sexual pleasure. Pleasure should be acknowledged in design and education efforts to increase female condom use.
A metal-free C 70 fullerene-catalyzed method has been developed for the ipso-hydroxylation of aryl and heteroaryl boronic acids to corresponding phenols under photocatalytic conditions. The reaction proceeds under oxygen atmosphere and the mechanistic study revealed that C 70 plays a critical role in the generation of reactive oxygen species in the presence of blue light. Reactions in the presence of 18 O-labelled water and oxygen confirmed the generation of reactive oxygen species from oxygen molecule. Amine used as a reductant could be recovered in the form of imine. The current method is also applicable to the synthesis of aryl ethers in one-pot two-step process.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
