Introducción: La atención odontológica del niño de corta edad en Latinoamérica se iniciaron en Brasil en el año 1983 a través de la implementación del programa “Plan de Atención Odontológica para el Primer Año de Vida”, cuya praxis está basada en la filosofía de tratamiento odontológico educativo, preventivo y curativo para niños el primer año de vida con amplio acompañamiento longitudinal; liderado por el Dr. Luiz Reinaldo de Figueiredo Walter y colaboradores adscritos a la disciplina de Odontopediatria y Ortodoncia de la Universidad Estadual de Londrina. Objetivo: Diseñar un protocolo de atención odontológica integral para niños hasta los 5 años de edad y sus padres o cuidadores. Metodología: Investigación proyectiva, no experimental con diseño transversal y de fuentes documentales provenientes de la literatura científica que estableció los mejores niveles de evidencia posible para sustentar la formulación del protocolo. Resultados: el protocolo se estructuro en 4 fases: I Fase Inicial (atención a la gestante, madre y niño), II Fase Diagnóstica (atención del niño), III Fase Preventiva, IV Fase Curativa del niño. Conclusión: Existe suficiente evidencia científica disponible para aseverar que la atención odontológica de niños menores de 5 años es fundamental para garantizar una población adulta futura con adecuada salud bucal. La puesta en práctica del protocolo propuesto contribuirá a controlar los procesos de enfermedades bucales como la CPI-Severa, maloclusión, periodontitis y sus factores de riesgo comunes con las enfermedades no trasmisibles.
El objetivo del artículo fue caracterizar la participación comunitaria en los servicios de salud de la parroquia Idelfonso Vásquez, Municipio Maracaibo, Zulia, Venezuela. La investigación fue descriptiva, transversal y de campo. Se emplearon criterios de selección para las comunidades y para la muestra de los sujetos a los cuales se les aplicó un cuestionario estructurado. El 75% de los encuestados dijo conocer la existencia de leyes que respaldan la participación comunitaria; 73% reconoció a los consejos comunales como las instancias de participación existentes en sus comunidades. 38,3% manifestó que la comunidad había intervenido en la planificación de los programas de salud mientras que el 19,9% refirió que la participación en la ejecución de los mismos era esporádica. Con relación a la contraloría social de los servicios de salud, el 50,8% de los informantes expresó no saber quiénes la efectuaban. Se apreciaron importantes avances en cuanto al reconocimiento y utilización de los mecanismos existentes para la participación comunitaria, sin embargo, se requiere profundizar lo referente al ejercicio de la contraloría social, a fin de que las comunidades hagan uso de este instrumento de poder que les permitirá incidir en la reformulación de las políticas de salud y por ende en la gestión de los servicios.
El objetivo de la investigación fue describir los significados construidos por cinco docentes universitarias eméritas de la Universidad del Zulia en Maracaibo-Venezuela, respecto a la experiencia vivida con motivo de la cuarentena social, en el contexto de la pandemia por COVID-19. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, desde la perspectiva fenomenológica. Los hallazgos se centran en dos temas: el primero referido al contexto de la cuarentena social en el país; y el segundo, a las experiencias vividas durante esta. Emergieron dos categorías: La cuarentena en Venezuela, es diferente a la de otros países; y la afectación de la cuarentena social. Se concluye que la categoría central emergente “La cuarentena en Venezuela, es diferente a la de otros países” en el contexto de la pandemia por COVID-19, resultó de interés conceptual para la comprensión del fenómeno estudiado, ya que reflejó la superposición de dos condiciones: la crisis humanitaria compleja y la pandemia misma; por lo que la cuarentena social tuvo un impacto multidimensional negativo, que afectó además de las ya deterioradas condiciones materiales de vida, también lo socio-emocional, y valores como la libertad, la paz, la convivencia intrafamiliar, todo ello con base a los significados construidos por las informantes clave.
