O artigo que se apresenta tem duas finalidades: a primeira, denunciar que a criminalização dos movimentos sociais não se limita a questão agrária, isoladamente, mas se faz, também, pelas demais políticas públicas, particularmente a política educacional, num amplo processo que vai do fechamento de escolas, ao controle ideológico de projetos e parcerias à precarização da oferta de educação, em todos os níveis e modalidades. Segundo, trazer uma reflexão crítica sobre a Educação do Campo e sua relação com os movimentos sociais. Convém ressaltar, que esse trabalho se assenta sobre o terreno teórico-metodológico que entende ser necessário se contrapor a movimentos/concepções/tendências teóricas que tendem a fragmentar a totalidade social em análises milimetricamente “recortadas” da realidade, perdendo de vista a centralidade do trabalho, da história e da luta de classes para o desvelamento das contradições que se operam no interior da sociedade capitalista e que podem fazer mover a “roda da história” em outro sentido.
Neste estudo pretende-se abordar a atuação das Damas deAssistência do Maranhão articulada ao Instituto de Assistência á Infá¢ncia doMaranhão ”“ IAF-MA (1911-1939), discorrendo sobre o papel da mulher neste projeto filantrópico, suasações e o seu próprio discurso sobre pobreza e assistência neste espaço-tempo. Problematiza-se apresença feminina no trabalho assistencialista em relação á infá¢ncia pobre da cidade de São Luás,analisando o lugar ocupado pelas mulheres (de elite) na ”missão caritativa” e como este lugar estavaarticulado á visão de época sobre mulher, trabalho e maternidade. As fontes utilizadas para o estudo sebaseiam em documentos oficiais ligados ao Instituto, assim como jornais da época como A Pacotilha,impresso co-responsável por aglutinar os intelectuais no processo de construção do IAF-MA.
