There has been dynamic in the transition of the use of media by news readers from conventional media (Kompas print media) to new media (Kompas.com and KompasTV Instagram account). This causes a change in the communication process starting from the way of producing, delivering, capturing, and disseminating news as well as the content of the news itself which is different from people's habits earlier. The originality of this paper builds on the main ideas constructed from the theory of Uses and Gratification by focusing more on three aspects; audience, media (news content), and function of the media. This study uses a qualitative method with a constructivist analysis and a news content analysis unit that focuses on Kompas.com and KompasTV Instagram account at the onset of Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 in Indonesia by mapping news content based on keywords for the Covid-19 pandemic and the Corona virus news search. This study found that the reading interest among the Indonesian people is more inclined to news that has an audio-visual format than the newspaper format. This is evident from the audience’s feedback in the comment section compiled from data findings. In addition, the lack of the audience’s control results in the poor communication culture among the people, so that there is a potential for media bias and fake news. This study has limitations in that it does not discuss the reader interest from the perspective of conventional news (Kompas print media). Therefore, there should be further comprehensive research by comparing the two types of media.
Instead of foreign culture enriching the way of life and perspective of local people, its existence has actually weakened the position of local culture. The position of foreign culture is no longer side by side with local culture, but its "beats". Here, local existence is not higher than foreign culture. As a counter to such a massive expansion of foreign culture, Indonesia actually has a Wawasan Nusantara which is a view that every Indonesian must have it as a pride for their own nation. It also meas a way for Indonesia to see itself (geographically) as a unified whole from the aspects of ideology, politics, economy, socio-culture, security, and defense. Referring to it, this study seeks to analyze the construction of Wawasan Nusantara in the border areas to filter foreign cultural exposure, especially by using a human communication approach. During the research period, the values of Wawasan Nusantara were communicated to the border communities to further see what the community was doing. The data was then collected using a mixed method, namely quantitative and qualitative methods that reinforce each other. The results showed that the implementation of the Wawasan Nusantara had an effect in filtering foreign cultural exposure in the border area between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, namely Skouw in Jayapura. Therefore, Wawasan Nusantara can be a solution for managing the exposure to foreign cultures in general. The strategy that can be implemented is strengthening local intelligence to increase public awareness of the dangers posed by destructive foreign cultures and the importance of tightening security in Indonesia's border areas.

Hal ini sejalan dengan Visi Misi ISI Yogyakarta, yaitu adanya penerapan dan pengoptimalan nilai-nilai Pancasila dalam konsep dan karyanya dengan memegang teguh konsep ideal bangsa Indonesia guna mewujudkan penciptaan seni maupun mengkaderisasi pendidik seni secara efektif juga menjadi tujuan utama tulisan ini. Teori strategi komunikasi (mengenal khalayak, merancang pesan, menetapkan metode, dan proses seleksi dalam penggunaan media) sangat relevan jika diterapkan oleh kreator seni dengan menggunakan pendekatan performance studies sebagai sebuah metode guna meningkatkan kualitas dan kreativitas para kreator seni yang lebih mengutamakan nilai-nilai Pancasila sebagai pedoman berkarya. Nilai-nilai Pancasila diimplementasikan melalui karya seni yang “borderless” artinya tidak terbatas lintas ruang dan waktu dalam konsep dan praktiknya. How to karya itu diciptakan, diproduksi, ditampilkan, dilestarikan, oleh para seniman, serta penikmat seni lainnya. Melalui pendidikan karakter yang berintegritas karya seringkali memuat substansi pesan moral di dalamnya. Nilai-nilai Pancasila raw-material yang fundamental dan terinternalisasi dalam kehidupan keseharian melalui berbagai profesi. The nationalist generation prioritizes the interests of the nation and state above personal and group interests. It means the law-abiding generation; discipline; love for the homeland; respecting ethnic, religious, cultural diversity; willing to sacrifice; able to appreciate the nation's culture; maintain the nation's cultural wealth; excel and achieve; and able to protect the environment. Schools, communities, and families become educational ecosystems that must work together. The creation of creative and innovative works of art containing the five precepts and the points of Pancasila as a noble value, diversity and diversity in Indonesia is one of the alternative solutions for realizing the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This is in line with the Vision and Mission of ISI Yogyakarta, namely the application and optimization of Pancasila values in their concepts and works by upholding the ideal concept of the Indonesian nation in order to realize the creation of art well as to regenerate art educators effectively. The theory of communication strategy (knowing the audience, designing messages, determining methods, and selection processes in media used) is very relevant if applied by art creators using a performance studies approach as a method. This approach is to improve the quality and creativity of art creators who prioritize the values of Pancasila as a working guide. Pancasila values are implemented through borderless artwork, meaning they are not limited across space and time in concept and practice. How to work it was created, produced, displayed, preserved by artists and other art connoisseurs. Through character education with integrity, the work often contains the substance of the moral message in it. The values of Pancasila are raw materials that are fundamental and internalized in daily life through various professions.
Optimalisasi fungsi media pada Youtube Kemendikbud RI sebagai fungsi pembelajaran guna mencerdaskan kehidupan Bangsa yang dicita-citakan oleh Bangsa Indonesia termaktub dalam Pembukaan Undang-Undang Dasar 1945 perlu mendapat perhatian dan peningkatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis wacana Fairclough. Temuan penelitian ini adalah fungsi media sebagai informasi, pendidikan, persuasi, hiburan, dan sebagai pilar keempat demokrasi sudah dijalankan dengan baik dalam video yang diunggah channel Youtube Kemendikbud RI. Namun fungsi media sebagai kontrol sosial belum direpresentasikan dengan baik dalam video tersebut. Dari berbagai fungsi media yang ditemukan, fungsi media sebagai pendidikan menjadi fokus pembahasan yang dianalisis lebih mendalam dalam tulisan ini. Maka dari itu hasil studi memperlihatkan sebagian besar fungsi media sudah dioptimalkan oleh Youtube Kemendikbud RI, namun terjadi disfungsi pada fungsi kontrol sosial, yang mana fungsi tersebut belum begitu tampak. Keterbatasan dalam penelitian ini adalah data yang didapatkan masih relatif kecil, yaitu video dalam kurun waktu Februari – Juli 2021, dan hanya mengulas satu video saja. Namun demikian, data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini cukup komprehensif karena mengungkap feedback yang diberikan audiens baik berupa tanggapan, apresiasi, dukungan, pertanyaan, harapan, kritik, saran, aduan, dan daerah. Sehingga diperlukan penelitian lebih mendalam yang berkaitan tentang fungsi media Youtube dalam mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa. Spesifik pada konten-konten yang mengarah sasaran audiens, misalnya anak muda, pendidik, atau masyarakat umum, sehingga konten tersebut dapat dirasakan manfaatnya oleh seluruh Bangsa Indonesia dari Sabang sampai Merauke.
