Irradiation. -Alkali and alkaline earth pentavalent bismuthates LiBiO3, NaBiO3, SrBi2O6, and BaBi2O6 possess high photocatalytic activity for decomposition of methylene blue and phenol under visible light. Methylene blue decolorization is achieved within 5 min in the presence of KBiO3. NaBiO3 shows the highest activity for phenol decomposition, while LiBiO 3 , SrBi 2 O 6 , and BaBi 2 O 6 show almost comparable decomposition rates which are higher than that of anatase (P25) under UV/VIS light. Alkali and alkaline earth pentavalent bismuthates are thus strong candidates for visible light-sensitive photocatalysts for decomposition of organic species.
