Teacher competency requires current and continuous professional development. ICARE (Introduction, Connection, Application, Reflection, and Extension) is a program designed to develop teachers' competency. This study aims to improve elementary school teachers' competency in literacy assessment, specifically for creative thinking skills in science, through ICARE. Twenty-one elementary school teachers in public elementary schools from urban, suburban, and rural settings were involved. The study was conducted in 40 sessions. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test and observation of training sessions. This study used two tools for data analysis: Normalized Gain (N-Gain) and inferential statistic (t-test). The results show that elementary school teachers in urban, suburban, and rural areas had good knowledge of literacy assessment for creative thinking skills in science. The ICARE approach was very effective in helping the teachers improve their knowledge in creating an assessment instrument of creative thinking skills in science. Further research must involve more teachers, from both public and private elementary schools and other educational institutions.
This study aimed to assess local knowledge as one of the character formation values of Islamic elementary school students through Heutagogy and Cybergogy learning approach. The writers employed a qualitative method with a post-positivism interpretive phenomenology approach. The research subjects were the fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade teachers and students of SD (Elementary School) in Ternate. The writers collected the data through interviews, observation, and documentation and then analyzed the data using phenomenological data analysis. The results showed that the school applied Heutagogy and Cybergogy approaches in learning activities through online learning instructions combined with local wisdom. The values of local wisdom that supported the formation of student characters were tabea (respecting teachers and elders), dodara ngofa (a sense of love and affection with others), and fohaka biasa toma dodoto madaha (providing an example of habituation in education). These three dominant values formed the student characters.
The ability of elementary school teachers to understand pedagogical competencies is absolutely necessary to carry out their duties as professional educators. The purpose of this study was to determine the pedagogical competence of elementary school teachers in understanding creative thinking assessment based on the characteristics of the city. This study involved 14 teachers who served in public elementary schools in the downtown, semi-urban, and suburban areas. The test and non-test instruments used to determine the pedagogical abilities of elementary school teachers are questions of creative thinking in the form of multiple choice and interviews. Data are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study indicate that the ability of elementary school teachers is very different from the characteristics of the region, namely; Teachers who work in public elementary schools in the downtown area have an average capability of 63,2%, which is in the category of "Good", semi-urban areas at 71,6%, and suburban area at 70,0%. The main factors that can influence these differences are teaching practice and academic qualifications, while regional factors have less influence on the ability of teachers to understand the concept of science creative thinking assessment. This can be seen from the results above, teachers who work in public elementary schools in semi-urban and suburban areas that have good knowledge compared to those in the downtown area.
