We report on a compactly packaged Yb-doped fiber-based laser architecture featuring an actively pulse controlled, single-longitudinal-mode seeder and multistage amplifier chain terminated by a "folded" rod-type photonic crystal fiber. In this laser source, stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is the power-limiting factor, but is managed by phase modulating the seeder with a pseudo-random noise signal. Pulse energy/peak power of ~2 mJ/1.5 MW at 10 kHz repetition rate are thus obtained within ~1.55 ns pulses of peak spectral brightness >20 kW cm(-2) sr(-1) Hz(-1).
Although various governmental and professional organizations recommend that teachers use an inquiry-based approach to science education, most teachers do not use this pedagogy. Lack of content knowledge and/or insufficient skills in planning inquirybased lessons may contribute to teachers' reluctance to utilize this methodological approach. This study explores the relationship between science content knowledge and inquiry-based lesson planning ability. The authors found a significant positive relationship between content knowledge and the ability to create an inquiry-based science lesson. These data are of great interest since proficiency in lesson-planning is believed to contribute significantly to the ability to teach an inquiry-based lesson. U.S. Department of Education. (2003a). scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
