Most patients with severe asthma are exposed to SGC, which increases SGC-related AE risk. This suggests that SGC exposure should be minimized as recommended by asthma treatment guidelines.

SCHIZOPHRENIA THE ILLNESS: RELATING STRUCTURE TO FUNCTIONThe clinical heterogeneity of schizophrenia implies that a complex variety of pathophysiological processes can occur. Attempts to understand these processes were revitalised by Crow (1980) when he proposed that there were two major pathological processes: dopaminergic imbalance that generates positive symptoms, and a structural malformation of the brain responsible for negative symptoms. Crow's approach illustrates that the pattern of segregation of symptoms into distinguishable syndromes can provide a pointer towards the underlying pathophysiology. Subsequently, Liddle (1987a) performed an empirical examination of the correlations between the symptoms characteristic of chronic schizophrenia and concluded that these symptoms segregate into three syndromes: reality distortion (delusions and hallucinations); disorganisation (disorders of the form of thought and inappropriate affect); and psychomotor poverty (poverty of speech, flat affect and decreased spontaneous movement).
