Com o intuito de maximizar os ganhos obtidos com o treinamento de força, tem-se discutido os resultados que melhoram o desempenho, utilizando ações excêntricas, para obter uma maior hipertrofia muscular. O objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar e discutir os efeitos adaptativos provocados pelo treinamento resistido e os mecanismos envolvidos com ênfase nas ações excêntricas. Trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica qualitativa narrativa. Para esta revisão foram pesquisados artigos em inglês e português nas bases de dados eletrônicas PubMed/MedLine, Lilacs e Scielo. A análise dos estudos encontrados foi feita de forma descritiva, incluindo material bibliográfico do período entre 1990 a 2014. Durante as ações excêntricas, o músculo tende a gerar tensão com o alongamento do seu comprimento na direção em que a força aplicada pelo músculo é contraria a direção do deslocamento. Essa ação gera maior quantidade de força quando comparada a ações isométricas e concêntricas. Quando um músculo é alongado contra a resistência, gera uma tensão passiva, a qual aumenta enquanto o músculo é alongado durante o exercício. Essa tensão se junta í tensão ativa durante a ação excêntrica (AE), resultando em uma maior produção de força do que em uma ação concêntrica na qual tem apenas uma tensão ativa. No presente trabalho com base na pesquisa realizada observou-se que o treinamento com AE é mais eficaz no treinamento resistido, quando comparado às ações concêntricas e isométricas.Palavras-chave: treinamento resistido, ação excêntrica, força muscular.
