Em 25 de maio de 1969, em uma de suas últimas aparições públicas, Theodor W. Adorno proferiu uma conferência -transmitida pela "Rádio da Alemanha" e publicada em seguida na coletânea Stichworte -sobre o conceito e a prática do "tempo livre" (Freizeit) 1 . À época, a discussão sobre as formas de ocupação do tempo que não é preenchido pelo trabalho foi impulsionada por determinadas características da conjuntura histórica, específicas da fase do capitalismo denominada, por alguns pesquisadores, "regime de acumulação fordista" ou, por outros, a "era da regulação keynesiana". Implementou-se, nesse período, uma política de pleno emprego, principalmente na Europa, com seu "Estado do bem-estar", e nos Estados Unidos, palco da "sociedade afluente" -regiões e países favorecidos pelas assimetrias da divisão internacional do trabalho. Procura-se, por meio da análise imanente da segunda parte do livro Dialética negativa,destacar os elementos centrais da posição de Adorno frente a Kant. Torna-se assimpossível estabelecer a singularidade de Adorno perante as críticas empreendidas pelo idealismoalemão, por Nietzsche, pela psicanálise e pela própria tradição marxista na qual elese insere. Sua proposta consiste em submeter a filosofia transcendental a uma segundareflexão que desemboque no materialismo, constituindo um “duplo giro copernicano”.
Georg Lukács formou-se no âmago da cultura burguesa, em estreita convivência com os principais intelectuais húngaros e alemães. Após o fim da Primeira Guerra Mundial, relativamente consagrado e reconhecido por seus pares-entre eles Thomas Mann, Georg Simmel e Max Weber-, para surpresa de todos aderiu ao marxismo. Apesar do pendor radicalmente anticapitalista de seus textos de juventude, a passagem da filosofia idealista e da crítica cultural ao marxismo desobedece qualquer lógica imanente. Em seu primeiro livro propriamente marxista, História e consciência de classe, de 1923, ele próprio chama a atenção para as circunstâncias históricas, ao justificar sua "conversão" pela superioridade da explicação marxista do presente, em especial da tríade "guerra, crise e revolução". História e consciência de classe pouco alude a essa súbita transmutação. Embora uma série de referências à cultura burguesa encontre-se disseminada ao longo do livro, Lukács parece mais interessado em posicionar-se no interior da tradição marxista. O "Prefácio", por exemplo, ressalta como propósito da obra determinar o ponto de vista do "marxismo ortodoxo", por meio da compreensão e do esclarecimento da "essência do método de Marx". A defesa da "ortodoxia" adquire um sentido preciso no cenário de então, pautado pelo confronto entre concepções e práticas políticas bastante diferenciadas, um contraponto que ameaça instaurar a fragmentação e a Uma vertente da tradição marxista adota como critério de filiação a essa linhagem a fidelidade à metodologia de Marx. Este, no entanto, não escreveu nada semelhante a um tratado sobre o método. A questão do método tornou-se assim ponto de litígio. Examinam-se, aqui, pela via do confronto, as exposições metodológicas de Friedrich Engels e Georg Lukács, adotando por fio suas concepções sobre natureza e história, teoria e prática, bem como suas avaliações acerca das relações entre Marx e Hegel.
■ RESUMO: Procura-se destacar aqui, a partir da relação de mútua dependência entre o concreto e o especulativo em Theodor Adorno, algumas características próprias de sua exposição filosófica. A recusa de definições, a busca de constelações, a construção de "modelos críticos" tornam-se mais inteligíveis quando examinadas à luz da relação entre os conceitos e o não-conceitual. Pretende-se assim esclarecer melhor a relação entre verdade e história no pensamento de Adorno.■ PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Theodor Adorno, teoria crítica, marxismo. Especulativo e concretoAdorno autocompreende sua teoria como um "pensamento de conteú-dos". Com isso, procura indicar que a teoria deve mergulhar no heterogê-neo, sem a segurança de categorias prévias, prescindindo da técnica usual que aplica os conceitos àquilo que já estava de antemão subsumido em sua definição.Trata-se sobretudo de uma recusa a degradar os conteúdos à condição de exemplos de categorias, patente na tentativa de evitar o estabelecimento de um "corpus" de teoremas, de uma fórmula à qual os fenômenos sejam reduzidos.
