IntroduçãoOs distúrbios temporomandibulares (DTM) são caracterizados por vários sinais e sintomas de dor e disfunção, que ocorrem em todas as áreas da face, do pescoço, do temporal, occipital e zona frontal da cabeça, e até mesmo no aparelho auditivo. A acupuntura é uma terapia milenar, parte da Medicina Tradicional Chinesa, com mecanismos de ação energéticos e com propriedades analgésicas, anti-inflamatórias, ansiolíticas, miorrelaxantes e ativadoras da função imunológica, que pode ser um bom instrumento para melhora desses distúrbios.Material e MétodosEnsaio Clinico Randomizado, aprovado pelo comitê de ética local em que foram selecionados 50 pacientes dentre os pacientes atendidos no Ambulatório de CTBMF da UFPE que foram diagnosticados com DTM. Foram randomizados 25 pacientes destes a afim de utilizar da acupuntura para analisar a melhora na sintomatologia dolorosa, conjuntamente foram analisados outros 25 pacientes que foram tratados com o uso das terapias convencionais.ResultadosA demostrou que a técnica da acupuntura ofereceu ao paciente uma melhor qualidade de vida, alivio das dores na ATM, mudança da qualidade da dor e diminuição de pontos-gatilhos, tudo isso em menos sessões e menor tempo de tratameto em relação as técnicas convencionais.ConclusãoA pesquisa demostrou um excelente resultado da técnica de acupuntura, que além de ser menos invasiva, se demonstrou altamente eficaz no tratamento da DTM.
IntroduçãoA Desordem Temporomandibular (DTM) pertence a um grupo heterogêneo de condições musculoesqueléticas e neuromusculares envolvendo o complexo articular temporomandibular, a musculatura e os componentes adjacentes. Essas condições podem gerar sinais e sintomas e serem influenciadas por uma condição biopsicossocial alterada.Material e MétodosRevisão de literatura, utilizando a base de dados Embase, Scielo e pubmed, utilizando os descritores: Infecção por Coronavírus, Dor Facial, Síndrome da Disfunção da Articulação Temporomandibular. Utilizou-se restricão temporal de 2016 a 2020 com artigos na língua inglesa como critérios de inclusão e critérios de exclusão foram excluídos os trabalhos que não tinham correlação a temática estudada.ResultadosA pandemia de COVID-19 afetou o funcionamento dos serviços médicos e odontológicos de rotina, restringindo- se apenas ao atendimento de emergência, gerando potencial impacto direto no tratamento de doenças bucais, principalmente em pacientes com distúrbios psicossomáticos, como distúrbios da mucosa oral, disfunção temporomandibular e bruxismo que é diretamente influenciado pelo estado emocional desses pacientes. Os resultados mostram que a pandemia de COVID-19 e a necessidade de isolamento social, gera impacto psicológico que eleva o padrão de ansiedade e pode afetar diretamente pacientes com bruxismo e DTM.ConclusãoFatores psicológicos associados à pandemia podem levar a um maior risco de desenvolver, piorar e perpetuar o bruxismo, principalmente bruxismo de vigília e DTM, por isso os cirurgiões-dentistas devem estar atentos a ocorrência de sinais e sintomas para gerenciar os aspectos multifatoriais dessa condição.

A lesão representa uma resposta exagerada, por uma hiperplasia reativa como resultado de tentativas de regeneração, caracterizada por hiperplasia de células de Schwann. Utilizou-se restricão temporal de 2016 a 2020 com artigos na língua inglesa como critérios de inclusão e critérios de exclusão foram excluídos os trabalhos que não tinham correlação a temática estudada.ResultadosOs neuromas tem origem de acidentes traumáticos, tem maior ocorrência no sexo feminino, na quarta década de vida. Clinicamente, as lesões orais geralmente aparecem como um nódulo normal ou acinzentado coloração de superfície lisa e branca, e os pacientes podem se queixar de dor como um sintoma frequente. Mais da metade dos pacientes relatam sintomatologia dolorosa que variam de sensibilidade ocasional à dor constrante e intensa que pode ser referida devido a compressão do nervo pelo tumor. O tratamento de escolha para neuromas traumáticos é a excisão cirúrgica. Uma técnica ideal com mínima manipulação e separação das fibras nervosas é essencial para um resultado adequado A maioria das lesões não ocorre, mas em alguns casos sintomáticos, a dor pode persistir ou retornar posteriormenteConclusãoCom essa revisão de literatura conclui-se que oa neuromas traumáticos em região de face são desecadeadores de dor odofacial e que seu tratamento é necessário para dar maior conforto e diminuir a sintomatologia dolorosa do paciente.
IntroduçãoAs disfunções temporomandibulares (DTM) são um conjunto de desordens articulares e/ou musculares crânio-orofaciais que apresentam etiologia multifatorial, porém, os fatores associados à sua ocorrência em adolescentes ainda não são bem compreendidos.Material e MétodosTrata-se de um estudo transversal de base populacional com amostra de 2118 adolescentes e adultos brasileiros. Todos os participantes elegíveis e que concordaram em participar do estudo foram entrevistados e examinados utilizando-se os Critérios diagnósticos para pesquisa em DTM (RDC/TMD). Os dados coletados foram apresentados descritivamente através de distribuições absolutas e percentuais. O teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson foi utilizado para verificar associação entre as variáveis e a força desta associação foi avaliada através da razão de prevalências. A margem de erro adotada foi de 5% e o intervalo de confiança de 95%.ResultadosVerificou-se que 34,1% da amostra pesquisada apresentou diagnóstico de DTM, sendo a prevalência de 32,9% e 36,4% para adolescentes e adultos, respectivamente. A disfunção obteve maior ocorrência na faixa etária de 45 a 59 anos em adultos e de 10 a 14 anos em adolescentes, no sexo feminino e entre os indivíduos com sintomatologia depressiva. Além disso, foi observado que a prevalência de DTM demonstrou um aumento com a idade, decrescendo a partir dos 60 anos.ConclusãoA DTM foi altamente prevalente em adolescentes e adultos brasileiros, com associações entre DTM com variáveis relacionadas ao sexo, presença de sintomatologia depressiva e idade foram observadas enquanto que os fatores socioeconômicos estudados não apresentaram relação estatisticamente significativa.
IntroduçãoOs distúrbios temporomandibulares (DTM) são caracterizados por vários sinais e sintomas de dor e disfunção, que ocorrem em todas as áreas da face, do pescoço, do temporal, occipital e zona frontal da cabeça, e até mesmo no aparelho auditivo que tem como principais sintomas a otalgia, zumbido, estalos e perda de audição.Material e MétodosEstudo Trasversal, Aprovado pelo comitê de ética local que consistiu na análise dos prontuários e exames de imagem de 3700 pacientes atendidos no Ambulatório de CTBMF da UFPE nos anos de 2012-2019, com objetivo de traçar um perfil dos pacientes com sintomas otológicos e disfunções temporomandibulares.ResultadosA pesquisa teve um total de 3.418 pacientes da pesquisa que um total de 53,04% pacientes não apresentou queixa ou sintomatologia clínica e/ou aspectos radiográficos de DTM, sendo excluídos da pesquisa. Assim o total de pacientes analisados que fizeram parte do estudo foram um total de 1605 prontuários. Na qual eram maioria do sexo feminino, com uma média de 38 anos de idade com sintomas mais prevalentes de cefaléia, dor orofacial e otalgia. Nos achados clínicos era prevalente a ausência dentária e subluxação da articulação. Já nos achados radiográficos a calcificação do ligamento estiloide bilateral era a mais frequente.ConclusãoDemostrou a prevalência dos achados clínicos e radiográficos dos pacientes com DTM, podendo assim delimitar um diagnóstico dos futuros pacientes e melhor tratamento.
