As águas residuais provenientes de indústrias (alimentícias, têxteis e couros) que utilizam corantes em seu processo de produção são potenciais fontes de poluição de corpos hídricos. Os efluentes contendo corantes modificam as propriedades físico-químicas e biológicas do meio aquático, pois possuem alta carga de matéria orgânica e coloração intensa. A contaminação ambiental é agravada pois esses efluentes coloridos são de difícil remoção através do processo natural de biodegradação. Nesse trabalho o processo de fotólise direta com radiação ultravioleta foi utilizado no tratamento de soluções dos corantes alimentícios, azul indigotina e vermelho ponceau 4 R, e um corante têxtil, o azul de metileno. Os experimentos foram realizados em um fotoreator cilíndrico construído em inox com sistema de recirculação da solução através de eletrobomba. O fotoreator é composto por uma lâmpada de vapor de mercúrio de média pressão. As soluções dos corantes foram analisadas por espectroscopia na região do ultravioleta e visível (Uv-vis) antes do processo de irradiação e em diferentes intervalos de tempo durante a irradiação. Os resultados obtidos indicam que a fotólise direta é eficiente para fotodescoloração dos corantes azul indigotina, vermelho ponceau 4 R e azul de metileno. A eficiência do processo de fotodesloração foi 96% para o azul de indigotina com 140 minutos de irradiação, 89% para o vermelho ponceau 4 R com 280 minutos de irradiação e 72% para o azul de metileno com 660 minutos de irradiação.
A deficiência de saneamento básico no país relacionando a um status geral, onde menos de 50% de esgoto sanitário do país é tratado. Neste contexto a possibilidade de disseminação de doenças, vetoriais ou não, é propício devido as condições instaladas no país, onde as estruturas de saneamento básico não atendem as expectativas. Ainda gerando preocupação devido ao momento de caos vivido pelo mundo inteiro devido a pandemia do COVID-19, podendo ter influência exponencialmente na propagação do vírus através do mananciais e corpos hídricos que recebem os efluentes não tratados. Neste presente estudo observa-se que a influência do saneamento básico nas regiões de baixa renda pode contribuir na propagação do vírus.
