Este artículo argumenta la necesidad de incluir las músicas populares en el currículo universitario, particularmente en los cursos de “Historia de la música” impartidos en la formación de profesores de música, pero también para cualquier profesional de la música. Se plantea que su ausencia debe entenderse como falta de justicia curricular y muestra que distintas iniciativas han buscado justificar su pertinencia como repertorio y objeto cultural, vinculado con un enfoque sociocultural de la enseñanza musical. Se analiza una selección de programas de cursos universitarios de instituciones chilenas y se discuten las posibilidades de descanonización y descolonización mediante la innovación curricular.
