En este trabajo se muestra el proceso de caracterización mecánica de la corteza de lapalma de lata (Bactris guineensis) a través de la realización de ensayos con base ennormas ASTM. Se muestra la forma en que se extraen las probetas desde la cortezapor medio de cortes longitudinales, también se describen los ensayos realizados y laspropiedades obtenidas como módulos de elasticidad, módulos de cortante y coeficientesde Poisson en aras de describir el comportamiento mecánico de la palma.Los resultados obtenidos son analizados y comparados con resultados de maderassimilares para finalmente derivar en conclusiones y brindar recomendaciones parafuturas investigaciones.
