This research study was focused on the effect of HRM practices namely recruitment & selection, training & development, salary & benefits, job security, reward and supervisory role on job satisfaction of few commercial bank employees of Bangladesh. A sample of 50 respondents were selected randomly from ONE Bank Ltd, The City Bank Ltd, ICB Islamic bank Ltd, Prime Bank Ltd and Eastern Bank Ltd using purposive sampling method. A survey was carried out with a self-designed structured closed ended questionnaire with five point Likert scale and the data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The findings revealed that recruitment & selection, training & development, salary & benefits and reward have positive effect on employees’ job satisfaction whereas supervisory role and job security have adverse effect. It was recommended to the authorities of said banks that they should emphasize more on these two HRM practices to ensure sustainable growth and development of their organization.
PurposeThis study investigates the impact of social media marketing activities (SMMA) on shoppers' store love and the impact of store love on store loyalty in grocery retail. Moreover, it explores the mediating and moderating role of store love and social media usage intensity (SMUI).Design/methodology/approachA survey was conducted among grocery shoppers and social media users in Norway. A total of 177 valid responses were collected and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe study discovered that SMMA impacts store love, and store love affects store loyalty. Store love serves as a mediator between SMMA and store loyalty. SMUI positively moderates the relationship between SMMA and store love; however, the relationship between store love and store loyalty is not moderated by SMUI.Research limitations/implicationsDespite having limited generalizability from a cross-sectional study, this study provides literary additions to the body of knowledge in grocery retail and enhances the cognitive appraisal theory (CAT) and the attachment theory (AT).Practical implicationsThe findings of this study will help grocery shoppers, store managers and grocery chain marketers to comprehend the role of SMMA in building emotional attachment with a grocery store and help make better decisions.Originality/valueFor the first time, this study incorporated SMUI as a moderator in the relationship between SMMA, store love and store loyalty in grocery retail. The study also proposes a new explanation for the relationship between SMMA and store loyalty by highlighting the mediating role of store love.
The rapid urbanisation has become a burning challenge across the developing countries of the world for the last four decades. The population pressure on the cities has caused many problems like environmental pollution, sanitation, education, health, traffic level and housing etc. In this context, housing is one of the most important issues related to urbanisation. Slums are reflected as the carbuncle in cities and looked extemporaneously and arbitrarily [Shafqaat, et al. (2013). The share of world urban population was 32 percent in 1950, it rose up to 39 percent in 1980 and 48 percent in 2000, which reflects that 3 out of 10 people were living in cities in 1950. In 2011, about half of the world population was living in the big cities and at the end of the third decade of this century; that make up the formation as 6 out of 10 people [World Bank (1999)]. Pakistan‘s town populace is fixed to become identical to its rural population in the year 2030. This needs for an effective urban planning instrument to confirm universal distribution of simple municipal amenities, regulator of the spread of slums, reducing of effluence and the control of crime and political might [Khan, et al. (2012)]
Does investment in social infrastructure affect the productivity of manufacturing firms in developing countries? To test this question, I empirically investigate the impact of social infrastructure indicators at district level on firm productivity using firm level data from Pakistan. I split my sample into rural and urban regions to capture the effect of regional disparities in investment in social goods while controlling for a potential selection bias from firms" decision to locate in regions with better infrastructure equipment. My findings reveal that indicators of health and education are positively and significantly related to firm level productivity in manufacturing industries in Pakistan. However, these results hold for urban districts only. For rural regions, both health and education show a negative impact on firm productivity.
In today's world, continuous fiber reinforced composite materials are extensively used in the aerospace, automotive and other structural industries. Since the applications of such fibers demand for a high safety rating, it is of utmost importance for engineers who design such materials to analyze its safety. When cracks are developed in such materials, the mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties also get altered as a function of the cracks. Previous studies have shown that changes in electrical properties can be directly correlated with the development of cracks in the material which can then be used to predict the remaining life of such materials. In this study we propose to introduce an additional layer of Electrospun Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber in the CFRP matrix. PVDF is a piezoelectric material, meaning it will generate electricity on encountering vibrations. Therefore, when PVDF nanofibers are introduced in the matrix, the stress on the matrix will be translated onto the nanofibers which in turn will output electrical signals. In this study, 3 types of glass fiber composites (embedded with PVDF, embedded with PVDF with Multiwalled Carbon nanotube, and no additional material) are subjected to quasi static tensile tests while the impedance across the material is continuously measured. The change in impedance was then related to the stress the material was subjected to and predict the remaining life of the material.
