Incidental to the study of the reactions of alkyl Grignard reagents and organolithium compounds with some heavy metal salts4 a more or less stable methylcopper compound was obtained. Methyllithium, dimethylmagnesium, or methylmagnesium chloride reacted with cupric chloride to give first cuprous chloride and ethane. The cuprous chloride then reacted with more of the Grignard reagent or organolithium compound to give a bright yellow, ether-insoluble methylcopper compound. The same compound was formed when cuprous iodide or cuprous thiocyanate was used in place of the cuprous chloride. The product
The Total Synthesis of Lysergic Acid 3087 in the ultracentrifuge,8'41 as are polysaccharides generally. With respect to immunological homogeneity it has been established by several investigators that proteins which are non-homogeneous in the ultracentrifuge,42 electrophoretically4 3 and in amino acid composition31 may be immunochemically uniform. The relationship of amino acid composition to specificity among the blood group substances is not clear from the data presented. Work on the inhibition by oligosaccharides of the precipitation of blood group substances with specific antibody suggests that the carbohydrate presents binding sites for the immunological reaction.44 In view of the general similarity of amino acid composition, it is (41) R. A.
A new general synthesis of hydroxypyrazines (I) has been devised which involves the condensation of 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds with a-aminorecrystallized from 20 ml. of water to give 1.2 g. of tan powder. This was recrystallized from 4 ml. of water using carbon to decolorize, and 0.8 g. of light tan crystals were obtained; m. p. 183-184°( dec.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
