Las técnicas de Diseño e Ingeniería Asistido por Computadora (CAD/CAE) han alcanzado enorme importancia en la industria mecánica, pues reducen tanto el costo económico como el tiempo de diseño de piezas, máquinas y componentes estructurales. En el proceso de conformado de metales es crucial controlar la geometría del punzón y la matriz de corte, pues los defectos geométricos en este tipo de herramientas suelen ser muy costosos. Para el análisis efectivo por el Método de Elementos Finitos (MEF) es importante determinar las características geométricas de los modelos que se analizan. En la presente investigación se presenta un procedimiento para determinar la geometría de un punzón de corte para llaves de cerraduras a partir de la técnica de digitalización de proyecciones ortogonales en la cual se hace uso de un proyector de perfiles digital de banco CPJ-3000A. Posteriormente, se importa la geometría a un programa CAD para obtener el modelo virtual de la herramienta de conformado. El modelo virtual presentó características geométricas aptas para el posterior trabajo de simulación numérica, demostrando que el procedimiento planteado constituye una alternativa viable para la digitalización 3D de piezas mecánicas de mediana complejidad.
Una de las causas de fallo que con mayor frecuencia se presentan en las transmisiones por engranajes, es la conocida como fatiga superficial o picadura. Para predecir el comportamiento del material frente a este fenómeno, las normas internacionales de diseño, Asociación Americana de Manufactura de Engranajes (AGMA) y la Organización Internacional para la Normalización (ISO), formulan modelos basados en la distribución de presiones de Hertz, para el contacto entre sólidos. En esta investigación se comparan las tensiones de contacto en engranajes cilíndricos de dientes rectos, de acuerdo a lo planteado por las normas antes mencionadas, el criterio de Hertz y mediante el método de elementos finitos. Los modelos en tres dimensiones fueron obtenidos con la ayuda de un paquete de diseño asistido por computadora (CAD), donde se tuvieron en cuenta las especificaciones de cada norma. Como una de las variantes de cálculo a comparar, es el resultado obtenido por simulación numérica, solo se tendrán en cuenta los factores que dependan de la geometría del diente y el material del mismo. Los resultados obtenidos se analizaron estadísticamente, donde se determinó la efectividad del método de elementos finitos para este tipo de cálculo, además, estos se asemejan más a los obtenidos por método de Hertz que es la teoría que sirve como base a las normas antes mencionadas.
En la presente investigación se simula el comportamiento a fatiga mediante un software de cálculo por elementos finitos, de los fijadores internos placa DHS (Dynamic Hip Screw) y un clavo Gamma, utilizados en el tratamiento de fracturas de cadera. Para el análisis de dicho comportamiento se realizaron estudios estáticos, donde las variables fundamentales a evaluar fueron las tensiones de von Mises. Para ello, se tomó en cuenta la acción de los músculos y el peso corporal para cuatro instantes del ciclo de marcha, así como las restricciones, condiciones de contacto entre los modelos y propiedades mecánicas de cada uno de los mismos. Tomando como base los resultados de los estudios estáticos y las curvas S-N del material de cada modelo, se realizaron estudios de fatiga para determinar la vida en ciclos de cada fijador. Los estudios permitieron determinar dónde son mayores las tensiones y cuál de ellos podrá soportar mayores ciclos de carga antes del fallo por fatiga. En función de dichos resultados, se determinó que el clavo Gamma es el de mejor comportamiento mecánico para todos los casos estudiados, lo que se comprobó con los resultados obtenidos por otros autores. Ya que en los estudios no se consideró la zona trabecular del fémur, los resultados obtenidos solo tienen validez desde el punto de vista cualitativo.
