Mushroom farming has become attractive business in agricultural sector due to its simplicity and flexibility of cultivation and quite profitable. Health awareness of Indonesian people about mushroom gives a positive impact to mushroom business. Behind the good aspects, several evidence argued that production performance of mushroom business is not optimal related to less capacity and deficiently appropriate knowledge. This paper aims to learn the unique strategy and innovation from local mushroom enterprise which is very famous in Cianjur distric, West Java, Indonesia in order to improve the business performance. Using technological (innovation) approach and qualitative method, this study concluded that there are two types of strategies, one relating to the technological part, and the other relating to the organization part. The technological focuses on attracting market and enhancing the yield productivity. The organization part focuses on developing capacity to fulfill the demand by making a contract agreement resembling contract farming with local society. For local society, the contract agreement has benefit to minimize both market failure and production problems under supervison support and without monopoly action. The strategies were capable of being successful innovation by interacting and cooperating with external sources, and performing certain adjustment with local condition.
<p>Every project from government, should be or must be delivering a great mission, especially for undeveloped areas. But the fact is, there were plenty of them failed to sustain then became out of order. This article uncovers the reason behind one of central government project supplying clean water to remote area that has a big tendency of failing to sustain its service. Using formulated factors of achieving the sustainability of clean water service as the framework, and social innovation approach as the tool of analysis, the result indicates that the service started to maintain its effective demand onerously due to dealing with the sociocultural of the users. Mushroom farming is one of the profitable agribusiness especially for rural areas in developing countries. It can be adopted and applied as a sideline or main business. Through a partnership, farmers are indeed able to resolve their falter caused by production problems and market challenges. However, some questions emerge about the effectiveness of partnerships. Learning the adoption of the partnership specifically on mushroom farming can provide more understanding about its strengths and its weaknesses for further better use. This study aims to review the adoption process and the experience of an informal partnership case between a mushroom enterprise and farmers using qualitative and non-parametric quantitative approaches framed by Rogers's innovation-decision process. The result shows that the partnership delivers ample benefits for the farmers and is recommended especially for rural society in certain conditions, though before and after the implementation, some issues were found, and suggestions are given for improvement.
