Objetivo: Discutir a relevância da avaliação epidemiológica das intoxicações exógenas em crianças e como o levantamento destes dados podem fornecer interpretação dos aspectos toxicológicos envolvidos nessa faixa etária. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão da literatura, a partir de plataformas de pesquisa científica, foram realizadas buscas na BVS, SciELO, LILACS e Pubmed. Para reunir e sintetizar as informações-chave do estudo foi elaborado um instrumento que continha as seguintes variáveis: título, país e ano de publicação, nome dos autores, objetivo, metodologia e principais resultados. Resultados: Todos os artigos descritos nos resultados deste estudo utilizaram o Sistema Nacional de Informações Tóxico-Farmacológicas (SINITOX), que tem como objetivo principal coordenar a coleta, a compilação, a análise e a divulgação dos casos de intoxicação e envenenamento notificados no país. A intoxicação pode apresentar manifestações clínicas no organismo resultados da interação com determinados agentes químicos exógenos ao corpo. Considerações finais: As intoxicações alimentares em comparação com outros tipos de intoxicação, é a menos notificada nos órgãos responsáveis. Ficou evidente que é preciso maior investigação dos sinais e sintomas clínicos por parte do SINITOX sobre a Intoxicação exógena em crianças.
