Pacientes com DPOC apresentam aumento da demanda ventilatória durante as atividades, causando dispnéia e fadiga, que prejudicam a capacidade funcional. Além da limitação física, a DPOC causa prejuízo nas relações afetivas, sexuais, de lazer e profissionais. Portanto, faz-se necessário avaliar o grau de comprometimento da capacidade funcional, alteração do humor e cognição em pacientes portadores dessa doença. Durante o estudo, foram aplicados os seguintes instrumentos: Escala de Atividades Básicas de Vida Diária (AVD), Escala de Atividades Instrumentais de Vida Diária (AIVD), Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (GDS) e Miniexame Mental (MEM). O estudo foi realizado no Ambulatório da Uninove, sendo avaliados 30 pacientes. Em nosso estudo, não foi observada correlação entre as AVD, AIVD, GDS, MEM, VEF1 e idade. A depressão não estava relacionada com a VEF1 nem com a idade; no entanto, sabe-se que, quando desconhecida e não tratada, tem implicações no tratamento médico. Seria interessante analisar a oxigenação e correlacioná-la com alterações cognitivas nos pacientes estudados.
Introdução: A sociedade está envelhecendo, e dentre os comprometimentos advindos do avanço cronológico da idade está a incapacidade funcional. Objetivo: Identificar e analisar as relações entre características demográficas (sexo e idade) e as atividades básicas e instrumentais de Vida Diária em adultos e idosos saudáveis. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo transversal, em 2008, com 75 indivíduos. Para a avaliação das atividades básicas e instrumentais, foram empregados o Índice de Katz e a Escala de Lawton, respectivamente. Resultados: Houve apenas diferença significativa, quando comparadas as atividades instrumentais com o sexo, observando uma menor capacidade do homem em realizar tarefas como arrumar a casa, preparar as refeições e lavar e passar as roupas. Conclusões: Os resultados sugerem que a idade influencia no processo de envelhecimento, que o sexo está relacionado à execução de atividades domésticas e que o estilo de vida adotado pelo indivíduo interfere diretamente na sua qualidade de vida.
