O Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação - SNUC, traduz o seu principal objetivo em conservar efetivamente a natureza de maneira eficaz e eficiente. Em consonância com este sistema, o Ceará criou em 2011 sua legislação específica baseada no Sistema Estadual de Unidades de Conservação – SEUC, o qual deverá abranger a maior diversidade possível de ecossistemas naturais existentes no território estadual. Esta pesquisa objetiva destacar as unidades de conservação presentes no sul cearense, avaliando a efetividade da elaboração do plano de manejo e apresentar a área territorial. Foram selecionadas as regiões administrativas: Cariri, Centro-sul e Sertão dos Inhamuns. Através do portal CEUC/CE verificou-se as UCs presentes nessas áreas, destacando os decretos de criação, área territorial, presença ou não do plano de manejo e as poligonais do mapa. O sul do Ceará possui 22 UCs, divididas entre uso integral e sustentável, as quais representam uma área total de 555.229,56 hectares, equivalente a 41,43% de toda área protegida do estado. Destas 22, somente 1 possui o plano de manejo, enquanto 07 estão dentro do prazo de elaboração (5 anos), e outras 14 possuem atraso de acordo com a legislação.
