ABSTRACTThe present article aims to show the relationship between the transformations in the geographic space of the state of Rio de Janeiro as a social determinant of health. To this, it points out the relation of such transformations in space as an important element for the dissemination of leishmaniasis in the state. Based on previous research carried out in masters and doctoral researches, the article presents information about the spatial transformations in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the relation with the spatialization of leishmaniasis. Based on the etiology of leishmaniasis, it is inferred that the anthropic actions associated to deforestation have a strong relation with the incidence of leishmaniasis, since the removal of native forest and subsequent alteration of the spaces favor the occurrence of the vector, which is increasingly more adapted to urban areas.
