O presente artigo parte de uma investigação sobre o circuito exibidor de cinemas de rua do Vale do Rio Tijucas (SC), localizado no litoral centro-norte catarinense, questionando como aspectos relativos à abertura, ao funcionamento e ao fechamento dessas salas conectam-se com o processo de desenvolvimento regional deste território entre as décadas de 1920 e 1970. Ao longo do Vale do Rio Tijucas, estiveram em funcionamento durante o século XX seis salas de cinema de rua: os Cines Manoel Cruz (1926/193-) e Lohse (195-/19--) em Tijucas; os Cines Canelinha (1956/19--) e Astória (1953/19--), em Canelinha; o Cine São João (196-/1979) em São João Batista e; o Cine Lindoia (1954/19--), em Nova Trento. A hipótese é que a implantação deste circuito é manifestação cultural da sociedade e as salas podem ser abordadas como importantes marcadores do desenvolvimento regional. A análise da formação desse circuito exibidor revela um processo de desenvolvimento regional complexo, com continuidades e descontinuidades históricas, resultado de múltiplas determinações concernentes à configuração regional. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa partiu da ordem próxima, as salas de cinema tomadas em sua particularidade e, a partir de uma análise histórica sobre cada uma delas, chegou-se às questões de ordem mais ampla, ou seja, as questões de desenvolvimento regional. Os levantamentos empíricos foram analisados à luz de pesquisas históricas e teóricas acerca de três campos: o desenvolvimento regional catarinense, a geografia do cinema e o debate acerca da relação entre cinema, cultura e desenvolvimento.
RESUMO O presente ensaio desenvolve uma investigação dentro do campo da economia política da cultura que objetiva problematizar e desvendar caminhos para o entendimento do quadro de hegemonia do cinema hollywoodiano no Brasil, tendo como foco a distribuição em salas. Coloca-se como hipótese que o subdesenvolvimento econômico do cinema nacional tem origem em questões de ordem macroeconômica, a saber, na estrutura oligopolista da indústria cinematográfica em escala mundial que logrou a dominação do mercado, especialmente da esfera da distribuição, pelas majors. À luz do que escreve Ellen Wood sobre o imperialismo contemporâneo, opera-se com as ideias de tríade competitiva de Alfred Chandler, centralização do capital de Harry Braverman e mundialização do capital de François Chesnais, para entender a estrutura e a organização contemporânea das grandes corporações de mídia. A partir de dados publicados pelo Observatório Brasileiro do Cinema e do Audiovisual (OCA-ANCINE), analisa-se a atuação das distribuidoras estrangeiras no Brasil, bem como dois movimentos contemporâneos que reconfiguram o mercado: a digitalização das salas e a emergência do streaming. O artigo se propõe a narrar os caminhos de uma investigação, de práticas de ensino e extensão na Universidade, e de experiências de vida junto às antigas salas de cinema de rua do estado de Santa Catarina (Brasil). Constitui um relato que é também um convite aos leitores a um passeio por ruas imaginárias ou memoriais, nas quais encontramos essas arquiteturas continentes de histórias e permeadas por relações contraditórias entre a presença e a ausência, o lazer e a política. Objetiva mobilizar o olhar dos leitores para as múltiplas possibilidades de abordagem do problema do aparecimento e do desaparecimento das salas de cinema das centralidades urbanas, bem como, a complexidade imbuída na vontade de compreender a totalidade da questão e a inserção das salas em um contexto espaço-temporal específico. Partindo do campo teórico da Geografia, e estabelecendo contato com as histórias de cinema, as salas de cinema de rua são analisadas mediante escalas, que, na realidade, se intercalam em um movimento dialético entre o universal e o particular, o mundo e o lugar: internacional, nacional, regional, urbana e pessoal. Cartografar essas relações espaciais multidimensionais e dinâmicas consiste em um grande desafio, pari passu mostrou-se uma prática de grande potencial heurístico. Diversas fontes e métodos estão sendo mobilizados ao longo desse percurso, os quais envolvem principalmente pesquisa em arquivos públicos e pessoais, revisões teóricas, entrevistas e observações em campo.

Essa cultura da vizinhança valoriza, ao mesmo tempo, a experiência da escassez e a experiência da convivência e da solidariedade.
