RESUMO: Propõe-se um estudo da relação entre a pessoa presa e a figura do líder dentro das prisões brasileiras, sobretudo nas prisões do estado de São Paulo. Os líderes são nomeados para serem os responsáveis organizadores e os normatizadores da comunidade carcerária. Eles são escolhidos entre as pessoas presas ou por grupos organizados, como o Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), nas prisões de São Paulo e de outros estados do país que são dominadas por essa organização. Essa figura é reconhecida pelos homens presos como uma presença necessária para a organização e para o bom convívio entre os detentos. Diante dessa realidade, a presente investigação, de caráter qualitativo, tem como propósito a exploração aprofundada de entrevistas semiestruturadas com egressos do sistema prisional brasileiro, a fim de estudar/explorar fatores intersubjetivos presentes nas relações entre os internos e esses líderes. Foram realizadas quinze entrevistas com homens egressos do sistema prisional brasileiro que estavam alojados em casas de acolhimento localizadas na cidade de São Paulo. Todos os entrevistados tiveram mais de seis meses ou várias passagens por instituições prisionais, seja por sentença ou apenas para esperar julgamento. Conclui-se que líderes têm fortes discursos de verdades e princípios, que possibilitam relações de poder carregadas de afetos e emoções positivas. Tais discursos de união e solidariedade atingem, em maior ou menor grau, os indivíduos que compõem a comunidade carcerária e, como consequência, muitos presos veêm nas lideranças um exemplo a ser seguido.Todavia, cada um dos indivíduos subjetiva as ordens e princípios de acordo com sua história, contexto de vida e seus interesses pessoais. Por fim, mesmo com a diversidade de percepções sobre as lideranças, se o Primeiro Comando da Capital ordenasse outras megarrebeliões, não há dúvidas que toda a comunidade carcerária seguiria sua ordem novamente.
